| Jayo Felony squashes his beef with Jay-Z and Snoop |
| Posted by Chris on Wednesday, January 30, 2002 |
Jayo Felony who dissed Jay-Z and Snoop Dogg on his last LP, Crip Hop, told Launch.com that he recently approached both and squashed his beef with them.
"We had our differences, but life goes," Jayo said. "To be a man, and to be a a man in this game, I've learned how to squash my beefs without beefing and fighting and shit, so I'm on a whole 'nother page. I started them beefs, and I squashed them too. We all straight. We about to be working together, doing our thang."
Jayo said that rappers should learn how to resolve their differences behind the scenes instead of using the media to get their message through.
"It ain't got to go to the media and to the public," Jayo said. "If there's a problem, we talk that shit out, one on one, as men. We want to thump 'em out, we go out to the back, and handle it, and hug afterwards." |

| "Tupac" written on wall of African village |
| Posted by Jon on Wednesday, January 30, 2002 |
We got an email recently that I wanted to share. The email is from a man named Yves who moved from Africa to Canada in 1997. The email refered to Will Smith who was on Oprah a month ago talking about about the movie Ali and about filming the famous "Rumble in the Jungle." That fight scene was shot in Mozambique, although the actual fight was in Zaire. Will said that he was in a village over there with no clean water, or electricity, and that Tupac and Biggie were both written on a wall.
The email said that in Africa Tupac is the most loved rapper and they loved him for what he stood for and what he believed in; he was a young black man who wasn't afraid to speak and tell the truth. The email said that often in Africa Tupac is referred to as the Black Prince. In Kenya, where Yves lives they have what's called a Matatu, like a minibus, which is used for transport and plays loud music. One bus in Kenya was named Makaveli.
It's clear just how much reach Tupac had, and how he spoke for so many. R.I.P. |

| Kurupt speaks out |
| Posted by Rukas on Monday, January 28, 2002 |
Kurupt has finally spoken out about his recent re-signing to Death Row and in the process has told us some of his future plans.
Kurupt said that this was not an easy decision for him to make. "I've been deciding on it for a year, talking back and forth to him. You know, really thinking, 'cause I got kids man. It ain't a decision of myself. Not only do I got kids, I got a whole organization behind me that I have to look out for, talent, artists. I got my mama with me. So it's a lot of people behind me, that's depending on me to make right decisions in different ways. Me going here wasn't just for myself. It was for my whole family. I went to the place where I felt they was going to enhance me more to be a businessman, and f--k a artist. I'm the king of being an artist. Can't nobody see on that mic. They never will, never can."
As part of his deal, Kurupt will serve as the labels senior vice president and his first release will be Crooked I's debut album. Kurupt will also create a new label, Trigger Men, which will be under Tha Row Records.
When asked about what his friends thought about his move back to Death Row, Kurupt said, "I talked to them to find out what they think because that is my big homie, and they are people I look up to as well as, I need to know. What you think, you know. I hollered at the homies. I hollered at Daz. Daz is always going to stay with me no matter what. Of course I had to holler at the homies to find out what they thought about it. And all of them, the majority of them, the main thing they said was, 'You know what you facing. Stay safe. Do right,'" he said. |

| DJ Quik talks about his next LP, Under The Influence |
| Posted by Chris on Monday, January 28, 2002 |
DJ Quik's own label, Eutonic Records, is scheduled to release his sixth LP, Under The Influence, on April 2, 2002.
"I been doing collaborations with some really heavy artists," he told MTV.com. "Talib Kweli, Pharoahe Monch, Shyheim, Dr. Dre, Suga Free. The first single is called 'Trouble' and feature AMG on the second verse. I'm venting everything that's happened to me the last couple of years - the thing with Arista, run-ins with the police. It's a new energy going on with me. I put together a record that will stand the test of critics wavering and short attention spans."
"It's a classic record with all type of influences," he said. "It's [got] no West Coast sounds on it. [Using] the whole Roger Troutman, Zapp [sound], that bullshit is for the birds."
"I'm switching back from that watered-down, corny shit I did with Arista. It wasn't just the whole Roger Troutman thing. Everyone thinks that's what it's about now — you gotta be real clean and linear. [My new album is] recorded in the fashion we used to do. The analog stuff, the old preamps, big microphones. It's a big sound. We're turning big knobs in the studio."
"Dude is like a super genius," he marveled about Dre who helped him fine tune some of the song. "His name couldn't be more perfect: The doctor. He gives you prescriptions on how to make your music better. You take it in and play for him, he gives you his opinions, and you implement his ideas. Before you know it, your record is beautiful."
"The guys in Sugar Ray are equally impressive," he said. "Them dudes is tight. It's cool being in the studio with people like that because the creative energy in the studio is to die for... it's funny to watch people discover things. It's like watching a baby being born when somebody gets a fly guitar riff and they practice it.
"[The song we did is] called 'Close To You.' Almost like when I worked with Tony! Toni! Toné! It's real warm, kind of organic sounding. A hip-hop bottom with a pop top end."
"It's a real hot record, but it's a little different for them," he said, "So we're going to see what they're going to do." |

| C-Murder in deep, but pleads innocence |
| Posted by Jon on Friday, January 25, 2002 |
C-Murder, who was arrested last week on suspicion of committing second-degree murder, will plead not guilty, according to his lawyer, who said his client is a victim of mistaken identity.
The rapper, whose real name is Corey Miller, was arrested January 18 in Jefferson Parish, Louisiana, where he is accused of killing 16-year-old Steve Thomas with a single gunshot to the chest during an argument on January 12 at the Platinum Club in Harvey (see "C-Murder Faces Second-Degree Murder Charge In Teen's Slaying"). About 200 people were in the club, and several were eyewitnesses.
C-Murder's attorney, Roy Maughan Jr., said police arrested the wrong man. "He thinks it's very unfortunate that this young man was killed," Maughan said. "But he's absolutely not guilty."
If convicted of second-degree murder, he faces life imprisonment without the possibility of parole, probation or suspension of sentence.
C-Murder might have to wait awhile to make his plea in court. The Jefferson Parish district attorney's office is still reviewing the case and has yet to assign a case number, meaning no charges have been formally accepted, said Conn Reagan, the office's chief of trial. That might not happen for 30 to 45 days, Reagan said, depending on the number of witnesses and the amount of police evidence provided to help determine whether it's a prosecutable case. Aside from general procedure, Reagan could not discuss the case, as it is policy not to comment on an open case.
As for C-Murder's other pending charges — including a disturbing the peace and criminal trespass arrest on January 18 in New Orleans at the House of Blues — Maughan said he's confident those will be easy enough to resolve and that he's concentrating on the murder charge first. He's currently advising his client, who is being held on $1 million bail at the Jefferson Correctional Facility in Gretna, Louisiana, not to post bail.
"It wouldn't be advantageous for him to post millions of dollars to be released," Maughan said, noting that C-Murder's latest arrest violates the terms of release from a previous arrest for attempted murder in Baton Rouge. "He would just be transported back [to Baton Rouge]."
Maughan, who is based in Baton Rouge, said he hopes to help his client find an attorney more familiar with the venue and jury pool in Jefferson Parish. "It's very important in a case of this nature," Maughan said. |

| Beats, Battles & Beefs |
| Posted by Jon on Friday, January 25, 2002 | |
This weekend Sway of the Wake Up Show/MTV will be hosting a TV special called 'Jay Z vs. Nas [Beats, Battles & Beefs].' Here they will be taking an upbeat, insightful look into the history and art of emcees battling. Featured on the show will be long time battlers like LL Cool J, Kool Moe Dee, Chief Rocker Busy Bee, KRS-One and mixtape DJ Kayslay. The focus of the show will be to put the concept of battling into a proper perspective [i.e. battle of the bands] and move it away from something that can negative. After all emcees battling has always been a part of Hip Hop. Unfortunately over the years some cats have gotten things twisted. During the show KRS-One provides a deeper understanding of why he didn't consider the war between 2Pac and Biggie to be a battle. The show which airs today Friday [Jan 25th] at 5:30 after TRL and throughout the weekend, hopes to break down the science. |

| Warren G Interview |
| Posted by Rukas on Thursday, January 24, 2002 |
The 411 Online conducted a great interview with Warren G, all props to them.
Tell us a little about your new album.
"Well, it's The Return of the Regulator, as you know. I got all my people that I love on there with me. You know, George Clinton, Nate Dogg, Snoop Dogg, Dr. Dre, Butch Cassidy, Kokane, W.C., Mista Grimm. You know, just a lot of people that I've been successful with. It's off the hook."
So what's up with the Mista Grimm reunion? We hadn't heard from him in a minute.
"Mista Grimm is very talented. I went back out and got him. I hate to see talent wasted. The people that he was dealing with before just wasted his time, so I just went and got him. Hopefully, I can make him a superstar."
What was it like working with George Clinton?
"Oh, it was amazing. It was incredible. He's a great teacher. He's a great producer. And a great singer. And artist. And talker. I had a lovely time working with him, man. It was a great experience and he certified g-funk as a part of the p-funk. So the 'Funkalicious' tour is getting ready to take off."
When will that be?
"At the end of February."
So you're on a new label, Universal. What are you looking for out of this latest switch?
"A bigger machine, you know, that's going to reach the fan base that I have. Somebody to be a family. Not just as an artist, but I want to be a family with 'em and really be successful together. So that's what I'm expecting and looking for from my marriage with Universal Records."
Was it your idea to have the album cover for The Return of the Regulator look so similar to your debut album's cover?
"Actually, that had a lot to do with Kevin Law, my A&R at Universal. He was just like, 'Why don't you come back as the Regulator?' You know, it's not negative to return when you've had success where you were at before."
Last time we spoke, you were just starting to get into the acting career. Do you have more of those projects in the works?
"Yeah, I'm working on a lot of stuff, man. I'm trying to find the right role for me so I can take that on and try to be as successful in that field as I am in the music business. I want to accomplish the same goals -- even though I haven't accomplished my major goals yet as an artist and as a producer in the record industry. Whatever level I can get to in the music, I want to get that same level in acting, and that's to the top. That's where I'm trying to get to -- the top"
What are some of those goals that you're still trying to accomplish as an artist and a producer?
"My goal is to sell a lot of records. You know, reach my people. I'm trying to hit diamond. Also, as a producer I want to be looked at as one of the greatest. Even though a lot of people think I am one of the greatest -- I ain't just bragging -- I want to be one of the greatest officially, not just on the underground."
What artists are you doing production for right now?
"I've got an artist by the name of Junie out of Seattle. That's a pit bull right there. I'm signing him to my production company. The paperwork is done. He's incredible. 19 years old and plays his own instruments. He writes, produces -- he's incredible. I'm working on that right now, blowing that up."
One of the big stories that came out over the past week or so is Kurupt getting back with Death Row. One of the things that Angie Martinez asked him on Hot 97 was what he thought Snoop and Daz and your reaction was going to be to the news. Any thoughts on that?
"My reaction is, hey, he's a grown man. Whatever decision he made is the decision he made. I can't say that I hate him because of what he did. I can't say I hate him, because he's still the guy that I know and I got love for. He just happened to make his decision on what he wanted to do. If he felt that that was in his best interests, then hey, do your thing, you know? I'm not gonna say, 'Well f--- you and I ain't gonna say hi' or anything like that. I still got love for him. It's business."
You mentioned a tour coming up...
"I've got a tour that's gonna take off at the end of February -- 26 or 27 shows I think. We're supposed to be doing it with Fat Joe as far as I know, so that should be interesting. We're gonna rock the house. Me and Fat Joe, I'm with that. I like Fat Joe anyway, he's a cool guy."
Anything else that you wanted to get out there to the people?
"Go out there and get that Warren G album. It's off the hook. The Return of the Regulator. It's tight, you know, and I want everybody to go out there and support it and get that. Much love to you for interviewing me. Much love to the people who read this. I wish you much success in what you do as well as everybody else around you." |

| What Suge said on 106 & Park |
| Posted by Rukas on Thursday, January 24, 2002 |
Like I reported yesterday, Suge Knight was on 106 & Park on BET yesterday. Suge had with him the most promising artists on the new Death Row, Crooked I, Nina (aka Left Eye from TLC) and of course Kurupt.
Suge commented on Jennifer Lopez, saying he was disappoint that she broke up with Puffy who is rich and successful, for some back up dancer. While saying that he doesn't hate Puffy, he still managed to bring the point across that Puffy is a bitch, even though he didn't say it. He talked about Shyne and how Puffy should of stood up for him and not let him go to jail. He also mentioned Biggie, saying that if B.I.G and Pac were alive and made up then both of them would have been on Death Row.
Suge also, as usual, dissed Snoop and Dre. He said that he was still making money off Snoop and is happy Dre left in 96 because now Suge owns all of Death Row. He also said that he had lunch with Nas the other day, but wouldn't comment on it any further. I'm sure that will fuel some more rumors.
One thing that was quite funny was that Suge said he wanted to give stars the deals they deserved money wise. Its a wonder that 2Pac died broke then. Pity Suge didn't have the same morals back in 1996. |

| Howard Stern show mentions Pac |
| Posted by Rukas on Wednesday, January 23, 2002 |
The Howard Stern radio show had David Letterman, or a very good sound a like, on Wednesday and during one of his bits he said "I would like to get THUD LIFE tattooed on my stomach, like toothpick shakur".
In my opinion its very disrespectful to diss someone after they are dead. With enough people to make fun of in the world, like bin Laden, President Bush or Ex President Clinton, why would someone stoop so low as to pay out a dead man?

| New 2Pac album information |
| Posted by Rukas on Sunday, January 20, 2002 |
WildNThaWest.com got in touch with Interscope Records last night and found out some very interesting information about the as yet untitled Tupac album due out soon. So far the confirmed tracks on the album are; Better Dayz, Don't Stop The Music, They Don't Give A Fuck About Us, Changed Man, Fair Xchange, Fuck 'Em All, Mama's Just A Little Girl, Never Call U A Bitch Again, Never Be Peace, What's Next, There U Go, Thug Mansion, and When We Ride On Our Enemies.
Mama's Just a Little Girl was described as a "2002 Brenda's Got A Baby". It features a female R&B singer and is said to be similar to Letter 2 My Unborn from Until The End Of Time.
Interscope said the album was "almost done" and described it as being similar to Until The End Of Time except with more solo songs. Suge Knight has had a large role in selecting tracks for the album but not all his preferred tracks made the cut due to conflicts with Afeni, who chooses soft tracks while Suge prefers harder tracks.
Although it hasn't been confirmed whether this is a double or single disc album, I think its a double because 12 tracks have so far been announced and this seems like a lot to tell us about if its only a single disc album. Not to mention that Johnny J is said to have produced 10 tracks, with Trackmasters, The Neptunes, Ron Isely, Hutch and Vegas and other Death Row producers also producing songs. This seems like there are a lot more tracks unannounced yet, suggesting a double disc. |

| Suge labels DMX a crackhead who wants to be like Tupac |
| Posted by Chris on Saturday, January 19, 2002 |
On Wednesday, Tha Row Records CEO Marion "Suge" Knight was on Howard Stern's radio show. He said that P. Diddy's the one who gave Jennifer Lopez ghetto credibility and that she dumped him for one of her dancers because Puffy didn't do his duties as her boyfriend. He said that the Pamela Anderson and Tommy Lee sex tape is rated PG compared to the Jennifer Lopez tape on which she's having sex with both men and women.
He said that back in 1996 they had a meeting. Tupac got upset at Dre and said, "I'm not working with you, you're faggot." "I'm not a faggot," Dre responded. Tupac then said, "Well, you're a homosexual." "I'm not a homosexual, I'm a bisexual," Dre responded.
On Thursday, he was on Wendy Williams' radio show. As usual, he dissed Dre, Jermaine Dupri, Snoop and unexpectedly, DMX. He said that DMX was a crackhead who wants to be like Tupac. He said that Chilli of TLC is a freak who had sex with everybody in her camp and would stop by the studio to sing and strip for them. This may mean there's beef between Left Eye and Chilli and T-Boz now as well. He said that Lil' Kim and Ray J are lovers. He said they ran a train on Michael "Harry-O" Harris' wife, Lydia, and that her husband should be released from prison in 2005.
Visit Real-HipHop.com for a clip of the interview in which Suge talks about DMX. |

| DPG wants to sign a Tupac sound alike |
| Posted by Rukas on Thursday, January 17, 2002 |
I don't even know where to start with this news post. It seems DPG Recordz wants to sign a 2Pac sound-a-like. You read it write, a 2Pac wannabe! Bigg A, apparently a DPG Recordz Executive, has posted a thread on the official DPG Recordz forum saying that DPG Recordz wants to sign a 2Pac sound alike and put his song on the upcoming Lil Eazy soundtrack. I can't begin to stress how against this I am. Pac's gone, sound alikes wont bring him back! Plus most of them are wack! DPG Recordz should focus on signing some new talents instead of trying to resurrect the past with some half assed impersonators.
Like Ras Kass said; "Look man, Tupac died man, you know what I'm sayin, you aint him."
If you guys agree with me, then head over to the thread and tell DPG Recordz what's up! |

For people who don't think Nas tries to be similar to Tupac, notice that in Tupac's shooting Nas takes the place of Tupac.

| Snoop wins adult video awards |
| Posted by Jon on Thursday, January 17, 2002 |
Snoop Dogg's triple-X video, "Snoop Dogg's Doggystyle," took home two trophies at the 2002 Adult Video News Awards last Friday, and the Doggfather and his entourage took over a fellow pornster's hotel room to celebrate.
The rapper's first foray into the porn world won the Best Music award and was named Top Selling Tape of 2001, according to a spokesperson for the movie's producer, Hustler Video. The flick features 11 previously unreleased songs by Snoop protégés Tha Eastsidaz. Snoop cast the actors and wrote the score, and he can be seen rapping and cavorting in several sequences that introduce X-rated scenes.
The Doggfather and some members of his entourage were on hand to accept the honors, which were presented at a ceremony held at Las Vegas' Venetian Hotel. At a porn-star-studded afterparty, the rapper and nearly 70 of his closest friends commandeered a penthouse suite bedroom belonging to actor Jason Sechrest, Sechrest said Thursday (January 17). When Snoop's security denied Sechrest and others from entering the actor's room, citing a "chicks only, no dudes" rule, hotel security was called to escort Snoop and company from the premises.
Plans for a "Doggystyle 2" video are being discussed, the Hustler spokesperson said. |
