Like I reported before, Fortress Entertainment is working on a DJ Quik VHS/DVD which is coming soon. Click here to have a look at a photo taken while the VHS/DVD was being filmed yesterday in LA.
Fortress DVD is a very good company, headed by Devin DeHaven, their videos and DVDs provide an excellent way for people to see what goes on behind the scenes on rap tours and artists day to day lives. I have seen the Liks DVD and that is absolutely banging, I will post a review of that soon, make sure to check it out and check out the Liks DVD or VHS when they drop November 13th. |

The "World Wide" video |
| Posted Tuesday, October 30, 2001 by Chris |
Below is an article from Launch.com:
(10/29/01, 6 p.m. ET) -- TheOutlawz--which comprises Young Noble, E.D.I., Kastro, and Napoleon--is set to release its sophomore set, Novakane, on November 6. The group was prominently featured on many 2Pac albums, including Me Against The World, All Eyes On Me, Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory, R U Still Down?, and Until The End Of Time.
The Outlawz will release the remix of "World Wide Mob Figgaz" featuring 2Pac and T-Low of Next as the first single from the set. The original version of the song appeared on 2Pac's Until The End Of Time, which came out earlier this year. The recently released video for the song, which was directed by J. Jesses Smith, features never-before-seen footage of 2Pac. The second single from Novakane is tentatively scheduled to be "History" featuring Seal.
When LAUNCH spoke with Outlawz member Kastro, he explained how the group, which initially recorded as Dramacydal, hooked up with mentor 2Pac. "Basically we came together...I am Pac's cousin, you know what I mean? Me and him grew up together," he said. "Me, him, and Khadafi grew up together since we was babies, you know what I'm sayin'? Khadafi from Jersey. He grew up with Noble, Fatal, and Napoleon, so as we got older, you know, we crossed paths from time to time then we ended up linking up, like, six years ago, ever since then it been on."
The tentative tracklisting for Novakane includes: "Rize" featuring Big Syke, "This Is The Life," "Ghetto Gutta," "Our Life," "Ya'll Can't Do," "Red Bull," "2nd Hand Smoke," "Boxspring Boogie," "History" featuring Seal, "So Many Storiez" featuring Kaillion, "World Wide Mob Figgaz (Remix)" featuring 2Pac & T-Low of Next, "Die If U Wanna," and "Loyalty" featuring Ed Bone and Kamikaze. |

The D.O.C. makes a comeback |
| Posted Monday, October 29, 2001 by Chris |
The D.O.C. is scheduled to make a comeback early next year with the release of his "real" second album, Deuce. Apparently he's not too fund of Helter Skelter which was released by Giant Records in 1996. It features guest appearances by Ice Cube, MC Ren, Nate Dogg and Xzibit and production by Jazze Pha and Organized Noize. It'll be released by his own label, Phat Cat Entertainment.
Ruthless Records released The D.O.C.'s platinum debut LP, No One Can Do It Better, in 1989. It featured the singles "D.O.C. & The Doctor" and "Mind Blowin'." Shortly after its release, The D.O.C. was in a car accident which messed up his voice.
"You don't play with God like that," he said. "He will sit you down [and say], 'I gave you enough time to talk, I gave you a hell of a voice to talk with, but you don't seem to understand. Let me just pull you back and sit you down — you're gonna spend these next 10 years learning.'"
"It was the hardest thing I ever had to deal with in my life," he said. "It had me doing things that weren't me. A lot of excess drinking, experimenting with a lot of drugs. It took nine, maybe 10 years before I could see light at the end of the tunnel."
Since the car accident he's been ghostwriting for other artists. He played a big role in the creation of Dr. Dre's first solo LP, The Chronic.
"If you've been listening to rap music the last 10 years, you've been listening to me," he said in an interview with MTV last Wednesday.
A good example is Shyne's "That's Gangsta" which samples The D.O.C.'s "It's Funky Enough."
"I was quite honored that the young cat called me and invited me to come to New York City to be a part of his [video for the song]," he said. "That showed he had a lot of respect for the guy who put it down on that instrumental before he did. I hate the fucking position he got caught up in. I wish him all the best."
He's also been searching for new talent, it was he who discovered Six-Two who would later sign with Aftermath Entertainment.
"I met this young boy, Six-Two. He had all the elements I had," he said. "Then I found another guy around the Dallas/Fort Worth, Texas, area, and things started to come together." |

Bones Review |
| Posted Monday, October 29, 2001 by Rukas |
Here is a spoiler free and positive review of the new Snoop Dogg movie, Bones, opening on Halloween.
"Yesterday afternoon, I went to see the new horror movie Bones with Snoop Dogg. Going into the movie, I thought that I would be disappointed.......I mean it is Snoop Dogg that we are talking about here. But after the movie was over my opinion had changed considereably...
"In Bones, Snoop Dogg plays the title character of Jimmy Bones, a good guy of his community. One day, some of the locals from the neighborhood approach Bones with the idea of dealing crack cocaine and letting Bones in on it. Bones says no and the dealers don't like this so they kill Bones and bury him in his own apartment building.
"Flash forward twenty some years.
"The neighborhood has become a scene of drugs and corruption. Four kids go to Bones old apartment complex with the hopes of turning it into a dance club. They do so but not before spooky things happen, like an eerie dog with glowing red eyes and ominous shadows. The kids, oblivious to these occurances, open up the dance club. It is here that Bones comes back to life and takes revenge on those who killed him.
"The fun thing about Bones was that it was a good old fashioned horror movie. While some of the acting on the kids' parts was a little weak, Snoop Dogg did a good job in playing the character of Bones. Pam Grier was good as Bones's former love interest as were the villains one of whom was Michael T. Weiss, who played the title role of 'The Pretender' TV show. Everyone in the film appears to be having the time of their lives in making this movie.
"Ernest Dickerson, who directed the film Tales from the Crypt Presents Demon Knight, does a good job with the camera. The make up effects by Tony Gardener are outstanding, especially the one of Michael Weiss, who is in a fat suit to make his character look like he has gained weight in the twenty plus years since killing Bones.
"Overall, Bones is a fun bit of Halloween horror. My over all score: 85/100." |

Tupac Vs. Film |
| Posted Monday, October 29, 2001 by Jon |
A long time ago we posted information about an upcoming Tupac film by UFO Films titled Tupac Vs. We recently received an update about the film. It was just recently completed and is currently being shopped for a distributor. The movie was delayed because it was centered around previously unreleased live footage which Deathrow and the Tupac Shakur estate did not give permission for. As a result the nature of the project changed to more of a dissective, biographical character study.
An interview given by Tupac while incarcerated in Clinton Correctional Facility in 1995 anchors the film. The interview is described as "very telling words in light of what would happen within a year of its taping."
UFO Films is hoping to release the film within the next few months. We'll keep you posted. |

Planet Asia mentions Tupac |
| Posted Thursday, October 25, 2001 by Jon |
The underground rapper Planet Asia mentions Tupac in an interview at ThaFormula.com
F - A lot of gangbangin go on in Fresno?
Planet Asia - Hell Yeah! All my homies is either dead or locked up dog. I'm that nigga dog, let me tell ya. I'm that new tupac nigga, sorry to say. I got a little bit of New York in me, I got a little bit of Oakland in me, I got a little bit of L.A. in me, know what I'm sayin.
F - What cha think about rappaz like DMX and Ja rule?
Planet Asia - Put it like this, if Pac was alive none of them dudes would be here. It just wouldn't be going down like that. If Pac was alive a lot of people would have their dicks stuffed under their nuts know what I mean. Matter fact if Pac was alive, either me and him would be partners or we would be enemies. But I love tupac right now cause he was way ahead of his time.
F - Do you think he was a better lyricist than Biggie?
Planet Asia - I don't think he was a better lyricist but I think he had more heart, as far as somebody that would say it in you face and not behind your back. Pac had heart, he was a real thug and that's how I feel. I don't bite my tongue for nobody. I be feelin like no mc's really like me, like niggaz don't really like me personally. People don't really be tryin to fuck wit me. like muthafuckaz don't be tryin callin me to get me on their album you know what I mean, like "Yo I gotta get this nigga on my album", but after this album drop they gonna be sayin that and I ain't gonna be on nobody's shit.

2Pack was created by young Moroccan-Belgian choreographer Abdelaziz Sarrokh, former dancer with Les Ballets C de la B. The show pays homage to Tupac Amaru Shakur (aka 2Pac), a rap artist, dancer and actor murdered in 1996.
Nine rooms of a local youth club are transformed as breakers and acrobats perform alongside street dancers and the classically-trained in a whirling dance movement set to classical, rock, punk and rap music. In playful and erotic vignettes, isolated and lonely youth find expressive power in movement and music.

ODB sentenced to two years |
| Posted Tuesday, October 16, 2001 by Chris |
Last Friday, a Los Angeles Superior Court judge sentenced Ol' Dirty Bastard to two years in prison for violating probation by fleeing a drug rehab center. But they'll let him serve the time in his native New York where he has been incarcerated since late last year for crack cocaine charges.
The Los Angeles sentence will run concurrently with his New York term starting this Friday. He has almost a year of credit for prison time already served in Los Angeles, California. He could be paroled in both cases as early as next year.
D3 Entertainment is scheduled to release his fourth solo album, The Trials And Tribulations Of Russel Jones, in March, 2002. It features all new songs recorded by him before he left Elektra Records. It features guest appearances by Big Syke, Mack 10, Method Man and RZA. |

Don't Fuck With A Killah |
| Posted Tuesday, October 16, 2001 by Chris |
Below is a part of an interview with Freddie Foxxx by ThaFormula.com:
ThaFormula.com: Do you think if Tupac and Big were alive right now things would be different?
Freddie Foxxx: No, it wouldn't. It would be the same God damn thing. People can find it in their minds to believe what they want. If Tupac and Biggie was alive right now. We would just have two more dope ass MCs on the roster.
But do you think their would still be those Tupac biters around?
Yeah, there's Tupac biters right now. Like Lil' Zane [laughs].
The song you did with Mike Myers where you called out Shyne and X. Do you thing two guys like that would be around right now?
The industry wouldn't have no reason to create them 'cause they would have the original. What happens is they listen to those guys and were probably influenced by those guys and the industry saw that. I met a guy the other day who used to double for Tupac in his videos and movies. If this motherfucker could rhyme, I know he would get a deal. And somebody probably if they run into him and look at him, what they would do is they would take the motherfucker and they would make him rhyme. This dude looked exactly like Pac. I stared at him for 10 minutes. Pac is on my new album, man. It's called "Don't Fuck With A Killah."
What was that from, man?
We did it, you know what I'm saying? When you hear it, everybody is gonna say that this nigga can't be dead yo! It ain't no clone it's him. It's hot yo and when you hear it, you gonna say, "Ah, where that come from?" But you know, I said it on "Devious Minds". I said, "I even rocked with Pac, but you ain't heard that yet."
So you rocked with Pac?
Yeah, that was my dog, man. Me and him had a very good relationship. He was running with Live Squad at the time and he was running with Stretch and them. That's when me and him was really, um, I mean we didn't hang out, but he would come by my section and I would come by his and kick it a little bit and I had did this joint, but I never put it out. It was called "Don't Fuck With A Killah" and I did it when I was on Flavor Unit. But I didn't want to give it to them 'cause they had screwed up so much. I never put it out and I always had the track just sittin there.
So why did you wait so long?
'Cause I'm a feeling guy and it goes with the concept on the connection. Like Industry Shakedown, it didn't go with that. 'Cause I'm an artist, man and I've got to feel it. If I don't feel it, I'm not doing it. I'm not a paper soldier. I like it when I walk in a room and people shit on themselves. That shows you who's got love for me in their heart and who don't. That shows you what's up. |

Makaveli Lyrics Complete |
| Posted Sunday, October 14, 2001 by Jon |
I have transcribed the lyrics for the Makaveli: Don Killuminati: 7 Day Theory. These are the most extensive lyrics transcribed on the internet and some interesting things can be found. One thing I noticed was in Toss It Up. There was always a lot of controversy surrounding who took the beat from who, Tupac with Toss It Up or Dre with No Diggity. Well at the very end of the song it says:
Yeah we took your beat Y'all know who's beat we took Yeah we took your beat Cause you wasn't rocking it right

Ray J to sign with Death Row? |
| Posted Sunday, October 14, 2001 by Chris |
According to Atlantic Records, Ray J is negotiating a deal with Death Row Records. It's not official yet, but in a recent interview with AllHipHop.com he said Death Row is closer to his personality.
"A lot of people doubt me and my image, but real recognize real," Ray J said.
He said he don't got any problems with Atlantic Records which is his current label, but they weren't equipped to deal with his music.
"They ain't really doing nothing. Their focus in on R&B/Pop. I'm down with the streets."
He said he has a good relationship with Suge who he refers to as his "Godfather."
"You see Suge, you will see me," he said. "That's my peoples. It's deeper than people know. It's hard for people to perceive [who I really am] because of Brandy and what she has said about me. [With Death Row Records], I'm about to put that thug in R&B." |

Mack 10 talks about Bang Or Ball |
| Posted Sunday, October 14, 2001 by Chris |
"It's gangsta," Mack 10 says of his fifth album, Bang Or Ball, due out December 4, 2001. "The Cash Money crew were fans of mine before I hooked up with them and I was a fan of theirs. It was easy for me to fit in with them."
The album was recorded this spring in Atlanta, Los Angeles and New Orleans. The first single, "Hate In Yo Eyes," was produced by Dr. Dre, but the majority of the album was produced by Mannie Fresh.
"He's one of the best. Fresh gave me a different sound that didn't necessarily sound like a Cash Money sound. He had something unique waiting on me already. A perfect example is the base thumpin' 'Do Tha Damn Thing.' It was like he knew I was coming."
Mack 10 says he isn't worried about the people who feels he left his hood when he signed with Cash Money Records.
"I think people are more open minded to that sort of thing than they were a few years ago," he said. "I took their advice about what they wanted to hear from me as fans. Of course, it's the same sound I always had: Nothing but the gangsta, thuggish, raw shit."
The album features songs including "Be A Dog About It" featuring B.G., "Connected For Life" featuring Ice Cube and WC, "Kingpin Of Dreams," "So So Serious" featuring Big Tymers and "Thugs In The Club" featuring B.G. and Lil' Wayne.
"There are more eyes on me now," Mack 10 says. "Whether you love me or hate me, people are going to want to hear this album. Even the people that hate me are going to want to hear what they're hatin' on." |

Warren G talks about his new album |
| Posted Thursday, October 11, 2001 by Chris |
"It's me going different places," Warren said about the "Lookin' At Me" video in a recent interview with MTV.com. "And that situation keeps happening. 'You looking at me, I'm looking at you.'"
"Looking At Me" featuring Latoya Williams is the first single and video from his fourth album, Return Of The Regulator, due out December 4, 2001. The single is produced by Dr. Dre, but Warren says he expected a bigger contribution from him on the album.
"A lot of people ask me why Dre never raps on my album," he said. "But I can't explain it. He was on 'Lookin' At Me' at first but then he told me he couldn't do it. I didn't understand it. I ain't trippin', though. I still got big love for him, but this record company shit is crazy."
Return Of The Regulator is his first album released by Universal Records. He says he finally found some sanity in the rap game when he signed with Universal, his third label to sign him.
"Universal always loved Warren G," he said. "They found out I was a free agent and got with me. I actually took a pay cut to go with Universal. I really respect their machine."
"They were disrespectful and didn't understand how to work with an established artist," he said about his former label Restless Records. "One time I had to do press in New York. When I got there, I get a limo and ask the driver where I'm going. He said, 'Motel 6.' How y'all going to put Warren G in a Motel 6? I can't deal with that kind of stuff. I never said another word to 'em and I got off."
After a legal battle to be released from his contract with Restless Records he looked to Dre and Snoop Dogg.
"I got at Dre and tried to be down with his situation, but we never got a chance to talk to [Interscope CEO] Jimmy Iovine," he said. "Plus he's got a gang of artists. As far as Snoop, that's my dog. If he had a situation where he was with a Universal or something, I would have fucked with him, but he ain't have no distribution then."
"I felt so happy doing a song with my friends," Warren said about "Yo Sassy Ways" featuring Nate Dogg and Snoop. "An official 213 song. We haven't done nothing in almost two years. The vibe was right." When asked about if there'll ever be 213 album he answered, "I'm 100 percent ready, but it's gonna take Nate and Snoop to be ready and down to do it."
"I was so hungry when I made my first album," Warren said. "When I made my second album, I was paid. I lost that hunger but still made a dope album. The third album I did was dope but I was on a fucked-up label. This album here, I had that hunger from Regulate... G-Funk Era, plus I'm with a dope-ass company. It feels good." |

Legit criticism |
| Posted Wednesday, October 10, 2001 by Rukas |
Here at HitEmUp.Com we won't give in to childish beefs and refuse to tarnish important news posts about people dying of AIDS by posting stupid ass disses and pointless name calling in the same article. Other sites on the net may take AIDS and death as a joke and be happy to diss people in the same post, but here at HitEmUp.Com we understand that death is tragic and want to uphold the seriousness and integrity of the situation. I'm sure you'll diss me for this, probably come up with some funny Australian jokes, something about Australian meatballs no doubt, fine, thats on you, knock yourselves out. But remember to have enough respect as not to do it in RIP news posts. For all you out there, and there will be many, who have no idea what I'm talking about, consider yourselves lucky. For those who do, I trust you will be mature enough to understand that this is not a bullshit beef, but a legitimate criticism of another sites morals and direction. We bring you news, if you want bullshit beefs, go elsewhere. Thats all I plan on saying on the matter.
Peace to all other sites out there, keep it real and represent what you believe in. |
