Xzibit: Man Vs. Machine |
| Posted Thursday, June 28, 2001 by Rukas |
While Restless is still enjoying much success and popularity, Xzibit is already looking towards the future. With tours planned in Europe & Asia, a DVD which will be released in September this year, work on Dre's upcoming Detox and the Golden State Project with Ras Kass and Saafir, it is amazing that X has found any spare time. But he has, and he's been using it to work on his next album, Man Vs. Machine.
"Restless was cool," Xzibit said of his current LP, which was his first platinum success after two previous efforts. "I wish I had more time to put it together. I was traveling, I was on the Up in Smoke Tour, I was helping Snoop do his record. There was no set time where I had months and months to sit with the album and work on it. It came out good but we can do better."
Four tracks have already been finished and Xzibit hopes to release his fourth LP late 2001/early 2002. It will feature production from very much the same team that worked on Restless, Dr. Dre, Rockwilder, Mel Man and Rick Rock will provide the beats, while Snoop, Eminem, Ras Kass and Saafir will lend their vocals.

Until The End Of Time On The Charts |
| Posted Wednesday, June 27, 2001 by Rukas |
This week, Until The End Of Time fell from the 32nd position to the 40th on the Billboard 200 and from 13th to 15th on the Billboard R&B/Hip-Hop charts.
Apparently some sites are reporting that Until The End Of Time has fallen out of the Top 50th. As far as I know this is not true, it currently sits at number 40. I think these sites made some mistake but if they know something that I don't, please e-mail me.

Zab Judah gives it up for Tupac |
| Posted Sunday, June 24, 2001 by Jon |
| Top 10 Sports picks on BET today featured a boxer named Zab Judah. He is EDI's cousin and was featured on the "Nyquil Interlude" on the album Ride With Us or Collide with Us. Interestingly, he has an Outlaw tattoo exactly like the one Pac had. On the show he picked Tupac's "How Do You Want It" as his #2 greatest video of all time. He was talking about how raw, and real Tupac was, and how so many people could identify with his troubles. He was also recently supporting Tupac in XXL Magazine. |

| Posted Friday, June 22, 2001 by Chris |
Here's a part from an interview with Too Short by Vibe in which he talks about how fast Tupac wrote his lyrics:
"I like Scarface. Scarface [is] like me. Turn the fuckin' music on, gimme an ink pen and piece of paper. Tupac was like that shit, too. I never seen nobody write a verse faster than Tupac. Motherfucker just grab the paper and he was writin' like this (hand in motion). I'm like 'How the fuck are you gonna write a rap that fast?' You'd think these motherfuckers had this shit memorized from somewhere else." |

I will meet them again today in Stuttgart and maybe then I get a full interview which I can bring online. |

Tupac Conference News |
| Posted Tuesday, June 19, 2001 by Jon |
Here's the 411 on the Tupac One Nation Conference. The first workshop featured a presentation about Tupac. His life, music, poetry and influence. The second workshop was about the Black Panther Party. The third workshop was about hip-hop and the media.
Davey-D, Money-B, Robert Moody, and Ascari X were part of a discussion panel where students/visitors/and guests asked questions about rap/hip-hop, Tupac and how they felt about him, and even Afeni. Leila Steinberg did a little presentation about what Tupac meant to her, and her experiences with Mr. Makaveli.
Some disappointments were: Mac Mall didn't show up after promising us he would. Shock G from Digital Underground didn't show, either. Surprise appearances were made by KRS-1 and E-40. This is not confirmed by anybody on the conference committee, but it was rumored that both KRS-1 and E-40 were in the parking lot for about 20 minutes. After that they went to San Francisco for a "rave" conference at Pac Bell Park. About 200 - 300 people showed up, and it was absolutely a great conference. Better than the first two. The next conference will be on June 16, 2002. The more people come, the better their chances of seeing a concert after all is said and done.

Lil' Zane publically accused of biting Pac |
| Posted Thursday, June 14, 2001 by Rukas |
Lil’ Zane was on Star & Buc on Hot 97 where they accused him of being a 2Pac biter. Here is the transcript.
Host: Why do you try to sound like Pac? Lil' Zane: Nah! You think I sound like Pac?... I dunno about…
Wait a minute! Last time I spoke to you over the phone you admitted that you try to emulate Pac and that he was your idol when you were a kid. Emulate? Whats that?
Emulate! Meaning you try to sound like him! Well... uhh... ok... but what’s wrong with that? Don’t you like Pac's music?
Yeah… From Pac! Not from you!
Well, thank you Pac-biter, Lil Zane, for coming through. Ok, thanks for the compliment, what did Pac sell? Like 20 million?
And what did YOU sell?! |

Hip Hop Connection slanders Tupac |
| Posted Sunday, June 10, 2001 by Jon |
An English magazine titled Hip Hop Connection recently had a review of the Death Row re-releases which included All Eyez On Me and Makaveli. The reviews are the most disrespectful reviews I have ever read.
2Pac "All Eyez On Me"/Makaveli:The Don Killuminati(7 Day Theory)" **(out of *****)
For heads that never fell under the 2Pac's spell his continuing popularity is a mystery. "California Love" is the only track he ever recorded worthy of a mention in hip-hop's history. It is a classic (which has as much to do with Dre as 'Pac), but the rest of his material is hopeless. Over samples seemingly taped at random from Radio 2 and beats so weak they merely merit the name, 2Pac churns out tedious, belligerent, violently sexist raps without skill or talent. Prolific to the point of distraction, he didn't deserve your love then, and he hasn't earned it since he died.
2Pac - "Until The End Of Time" (Interscope) *(out of *****)
FAT FACT! Out of 29 song titles, more than half are grammatically incorrect -now that's prolific!
This latest installment of a certain dead rapper's downward artistic curve, which in all honesty probably peaked as a dancer with Digital Underground, sees us, the record buying public, being blessed with a colossal 29 tracks recorded on his release from jail in 1995. Casting all moral judgments on his life and subsequent hyperbolic hero worship by certain factions aside, we'll report that the world's most astoundingly prolific corpse continues to display the chronic lack of quality control he's become renowned for. And come on, the damn thing is executive produced by those known musical talents Suge Knight and 2Pac's mum, and, well, that's got to be a guarantee of musical quality hasn't it? In a word, insulting.

Reviewer slanders Tupac |
| Posted Thursday, June 7, 2001 by Jon |
Here is what the reviewer had to say:
IF ELVIS is really dead, why doesn't he release a new CD every month like 2Pac? Nothing here sounds any different from his last two albums — but then, few artists evolve stylistically in the coffin. "My only fear of death is reincarnation," raps 2Pac. Tough, homie.
Like Tupac said "N*ggas talk a lot of sh*t, but that's after I'm gone, cause they fear me in the physical form."

Outlaw Recordz without distributor? |
| Posted Monday, June 4, 2001 by Chris |
| Bayside Entertainment Distribution is no longer Outlaw Recordz's distributor. There's some kind of disagreement between them and other companies they're distributing as well. It started with that Killa Tay complained about Bayside, he influenced others including the Outlawz and Luni Coleone. I don't know if they've got a new distributor, but let's hope this won't affect the release of Jerzey Mob which is scheduled to be released on June 5, 2001. |

Eminem fueds with Limp Bizkit |
| Posted Sunday, June 3, 2001 by Jon |
The Eminem/Everlast feud has expanded to include Eminem's one-time friends Fred Durst and DJ Lethal of Limp Bizkit. Eminem has some choice and predictably profane words for the pair on "Girls," a track from the group D12's forthcoming Devil's Night.
Eminem is apparently upset about a comment Lethal made in December during the Limp guys' visit to "TRL." Lethal, who was in House of Pain with Everlast but was also friends with Eminem, at first said of their beef, "They're both men, they'll work it out." But he added that if the two were to take their differences outside the realm of their respective records, "Everlast would definitely win, you know what I mean?"
Em has retaliated with "Girls," his third volley in his war of the words with Everlast. Lethal was supposed to guest on "Quitter," one of Eminem and D12's Everlast-dissing songs, which calls on fans to physically attack the former House of Pain MC. Lethal bowed out, inspiring Em to call him and Durst "cowards" and "sissies" on "Girls," and ridicule their hit "Rollin'": "C'mon dog, it was supposed to be on that song ('Quitter')/ Talking about how bad you hate him/ Now you all on his thong You f---ing sissy/ Up onstage screaming how people hate you/ They don't hate you/ They just think you're corny since Christina played you."
Later in the song, Eminem claims he left Durst hanging on purpose when the red-capped singer tried to give him a high five at the MTV Video Music Awards in September though Em claimed his reason for dissing Durst and Lethal is for comments Lethal made two months later. Eminem also allied himself with Limp Bizkit when he attacked Everlast on the D12 B-side, "Sh-- on You," which was released in October, and "Quitter," released in December. |

Kurupt featuring Shyne |
| Posted Sunday, June 3, 2001 by Jon |
| Some underground heads have been talking about Shyne being featured on a remix of "Behind the Walls" with Kurupt and Daz. The song got leaked for a few hours on Morpheus. Kurupt gives props to Shyne in the first verse saying "poundin with Shyne." Later Shyne says "Kurupt and Nate in the Empire State with that nigga Shyne po, hold up wait". One has to wonder if Shyne rolling with the Westcoast has something to do with Puffy being a fake b*tch. |

Nelly goes Gangsta |
| Posted Sunday, June 3, 2001 by Jon |
MTV had a "Gangsta Weekend" and they played a commercial with Nelly.
Nelly said: "What up this is Gangsta Weekend with some of the flyest cats in hiphop, Eminem, Dre, Snoop and Puffy and peace to my man Pac and Biggie. East Coast and West Coast. You know, who's the best?"
HitEmUp Note: MTV's impression of a gangsta is almost as funny as Nelly's gangsta impression. |
