Fredro Starr mentions Pac, Lawz and DR |
| Posted Sunday, May 20, 2001 by Jon |
In MTV Germany on the show Select they had Fredro Starr as a guest. He talked about Tupac, the Outlawz and Death Row. Daniel from Hamburg called and asked Fredro some questions.
Daniel: How did the collaboration with tha Outlawz happen? Fredro Starr: Well, me and Tupac were good friends, you know. Suge Knight and Tupac came to the Sunset Park premiere. And that´s when we really bonded at the premiere of that movie. And since Tupac is not here, I wanted somebody who can represent "Dyin´ 4 rap". So the Outlawz was one of the groups because of Tupac´s death, they´re all dyin´ 4 rap. And I also had Capone-n- Noreaga, who just got outta jail, who iz also dyin 4 rap. And I also had Cuban Links, who lost Big Pun, so he´s dyin 4 rap too. So, I like to rap wit an artist, you know, that really means somethin 2 me.
Daniel: Suge Knight should be released from jail a few weeks ago, is he already out or is he still in? He´s alright? Fredro: He´s cool, back in the movie in ´96 when we came to the premiere, he asked me 2 be on Death Row Records. But thingz happened in a not that way wanted direction, you know. But Suge is cool with me.
VJ: And, did he go to jail? Fredro: Yeah, he went to jail, you know what I´m sayin´, but he´s out. Daniel: Another important question: Do you believe Death Row will rise again, you know, Death Row only made 10 million dollars in the past years, cause Suge was in jail and so on ...less artists, Dre left, Nate Dogg left, everybody left... And do you believe Death Row will rise and be big again? Fredro: Well, I don´t know what Death Row Records is gonna do, but you know, other people money, other people marks, that´s my label, ya know I´m sayin´, so it´s gonna be really big, so keep your eyez out 4 other people money, ya know I´m sayin, so that´s where the money is at.

Tha Dogg Pound 2002 |
| Posted Saturday, May 19, 2001 by Chris |
It seems like Death Row Records isn't quite done yet making money outta their former artists. They're scheduled to release Tha Dogg Pound 2002, an album featuring previously unreleased material by former Death Row recording artists D.P.G., on July 31, 2001. Jayo Felony is scheduled to guest appear on the album dissing Snoop Dogg.
"I don't know nothin' about that," Daz Dillinger said in a recent interview with MTV. "More power to them. I'ma get paid off it. I got a deal when I left that I walked with all [my masters]. They could put it out, but I still get all mine. I want to hear what he got."
Daz who recently released Dillinger & Young Gotti by himself and Kurupt on his own label, D.P.G. Recordz, said he isn't worried about the new album competing with the old one, though.
"[Death Row putting out an album will] probably make both of them sell. Everybody already knows what Death Row does because of what happened with Snoop. I'm just gonna ride off their promotion. [Suge's] probably gonna put out a bunch of remixes. He ain't got nothing else. If a bum has a piece of something in the trash, he's gonna make it last. He messed up and lost a good thing. But for now we got this new D.P.G. album out there," Daz said. |

R.I.P Marlon Brando |
| Posted Thursday, May 17, 2001 by Rukas |
Sporty Thievz member Marlon Brando died on Friday, 11th of May after a minivan ran a red light and hit him.
R.I.P Marlon Brando. Our prayers go out to his family including his newborn baby.
Below is an article explaining what happened:
NEW YORK — Sporty Thievz member Marlon Brando, who rapped on the group's hit TLC parody "No Pigeons," died in a car accident in the Bronx early Friday morning.
Brando, whose real name was Marlon Bryant, was walking out of a deli around 3 a.m. when a minivan ran a red light, jumped a curb and slammed into him, according to Sporty Thievz DJ Gehai. The accident crushed both of his legs and sent his blood pressure plummeting — he died shortly after an ambulance arrived on the scene, Gehai said.
The rapper was 22 years old and the father of a newborn baby, according to Gehai.
Sylvia Reyes, a spokesperson for Lincoln Medical and Mental Health Center in the South Bronx, confirmed that Bryant was pronounced dead early Friday morning. A police spokesperson was unable to provide details on the car accident or information on whether the driver will face charges.
Sporty Thievz had just released a new indie-label album, In Stores Now (F--- Sporty Thievz), and were going to celebrate at an album-release party this weekend.
Gehai described Brando as "the conscience" of Sporty Thievz and a driving, creativeforce.
"He basically came up with the idea for all the hooks, the concepts for the song," Gehai said. "Bran was the comedian of the group. He'd been through a lot of shit, like everybody else, but you'd always see Bran smiling and cracking a joke."
Sporty Thievz released their debut album, Street Cinema, in 1998, garnering radio play with the single "Cheapskate (You Ain't Getting' Nada)."
But the group's career moved into higher gear the following year when they released the single "No Pigeons," an answer to TLC's "No Scrubs" that used the original song's backing track but reversed its message.
The single was a major hit and was added to Street Cinema as a bonus track. In April 2000, the group released the single "La La," which became a hip-hop radio hit in its own right.
The Yonkers-based group, whose other members are King Kirk and Big Dubez, plan to stay together, according to Gehai.
"We got to," he said. "We owe that to Bran."

Suge to tell da real story of Jennifer Lopez? |
| Posted Saturday, May 12, 2001 by Chris |
A videotape of Jennifer Lopez and an ex-boyfriend having sex has apparently been sold to Marion "Suge" Knight. The oh-so-candid camcorder was placed by a bed and activated by the unidentified ex-boyfriend as a part of innocent sex play in 1990. He never expected Lopez to become famous, but when she did he saw an opportunity to make some big money and sold it to Suge who plan to release it under the title, Jennifer Lopez: Da Real Story, through his company, Suge Knight Films.
"There is a such video, and it is definitely Jennifer Lopez," said a Suge Knight Films executive in an interview with Star Magazine. "No doubt. You can see the big butt and everything," he continued "We've had this for a while now. We were looking for the right time to put it out, and Jennifer is so famous, the right time is now. Stay tuned!"
"I don't know anything about this. I doubt that this tape exists," said Lopez's spokesman, Alan
Nierob. |

Has Tupac's legacy been ruined? |
| Posted Monday, May 7, 2001 by Jon |
I believe Tupac Shakur died in 1996. If you don’t, your entitled to your opinion. ‘Pac left behind a legacy of movies, music, poems, and memories. In 1996, not too many people knew very much about 2pac. In the five years since his death, books have been written, documentaries have been made, websites have been constructed, and countless articles have been written about him. He went from an almost mythical figure to just an overexposed subject in the every day world. Are the things we pass off as tributes and continuances and preservations the things that ruined ‘Pac’s legacy? ... Click here for more
