Tupac mentioned on BBC
Posted Saturday, April 28, 2001 by EDI
Recently, Antonio “Huggy Bear” Fargus appeared on a program called RDA on BBC Choice (UK).
At the end of the interview, the presenter asked a member
of the audience what he thought of Starsky and Hutch.

He replied:

"We was born in the 70s so we don't know any of that
stuff. From that point of view it was kinda boring"

Antonio Fargus: "What's your problem? What is your
problem?"

Audience guy: "I wanna know about your dope and menace
days, y'know, stuff that we've seen. Starsky and Hutch
is nothing man, we don't appreciate it"

Fargus: "Television was just born when you were born,
that's why it looks bad. Look, it don't matter - if
it's Tupac or any of the guys, or any of the rappers
you listen to - the guys who know the most are the
guys who know their history. That's why you buying the
records instead of producing them"

Antonio Fargus then got up and left.

Thanks to Krazy K for those news

Suge Shot me Theory counterproof
Posted Wednesday, April 25, 2001 by EDI
All of you know the notorious line on Tupac's posthumous album The Don Killuminati - The 7 Day Theory under his synonym Makaveli. A lot of people claimed that someone says Suge Shot me in the first seconds of the intro. This lead to the conclusion that Suge was a suspect in the murder of Tupac in Las Vegas. But in fact, the intro was taken from the movie titled Best of the best II which was released in 1993. Since this was a vehemently discussed subject, It is good that it was finally put to rest. The Alchemist sold the same beat twice
Posted Monday, April 23, 2001 by Chris
In a recent interview with MTV Ras Kass accused producer the Alchemist for selling the same beat twice. Ras said he bought the beat and used it for "Home Sweet Home," a song which was scheduled to appear on Ras' third album, Van Gogh. The Alchemist later sold the beat to Jadakiss who used to it for "We Gon' Make It," a song which is scheduled to appear on Jadakiss' debut solo album, Game Goodbye, due out June 12, 2001.

"I paid [the Alchemist] for the track and picked the track," said Ras. "I don't know what the circumstances were, but he ends up trying to sell it to Ruff Ryders and Jadakiss specifically and tries to play like he didn't do it."

"Dude cashed the check and now he's playing stupid," Ras said. "After we try to resolve the situation, they take it to [New York radio station] Hot 97 and try to blast off on the shit and give it to [radio personality and mix tape king] DJ Clue. That's some foul shit. Alchemist needs to step up and be a man. For him to sell them the same beat, that's his wrong. At the same time, I don't know what the conversation was for them [Jadakiss' people] to go and take it to Hot 97 when we've been trying to deal with this for the past two weeks with our lawyers."

Ras is currently working on the 4 Horsemen and Golden State Project's albums. Don't expect any songs produced by the Alchemist on neither.

"I definitely wouldn't want to work with the cat," Ras said.

L-Burna suffers eye damage
Posted Saturday, April 21, 2001 by Chris
Last Thursday, L-Burna suffered a quarter-inch scratch on his right eye during the shooting for his video, "Listen." One make-up artist sprayed him with a mixture of baby oil and water to make it look like sweat. Some of the liquid accidently came in contact with L-Burna's right eye.

"I was complaining right after it happened, 'cause it hurt so bad, but I didn't want to sound like I was complaining too much," L-Burna said in a recent interview with MTV. "So I thought it out until Friday. I got the video done. The thing that was most frustrating was that nobody gave a shit about me. The production crew just wanted to finish the video. I won't be working with them no more."

Paramedics were called to the shooting and they treated L-Burna's right eye with distilled water. On Monday, he visited an eye specialist who explained for him how serious the injury was and that he might be forced to wear permanent corrective lenses.

"I was real bummed out," L-Burna said. "You know thugs don't wear no glasses. But my spirits are better today."

Black Trash
Posted Saturday, April 21, 2001 by Chris
Sticky Fingaz's debut solo LP, Black Trash: The Autobiography Of Kirk Jones, is scheduled to be released by Universal Records on May 22, 2001. It features production by himself, Damon Elliot, Dr. Dre, Prophency Entertainment, Punch, Rockwilder, Self Service and The Teamsters.

"I told Dr. Dre that they had pushed my album back four times," said Sticky in a recent interview with MTV. "He was like, 'Stick, man, they pushed my album back like six times. Don't even worry about that. If they don't push it back, that means that you don't have a hot album.' It's cool that they pushed the album back. Besides, it was pushed back because my album was bootlegged in the streets and I wanted to do a new song with Dre."

"I looked at the world and the marketplace, and we're living in the future," Sticky said. "This is the Jetson age. But everybody's still doing pre-historic, basic songs and rhymes. I wanted to make it more creative and imaginative."

"The album was going through stages," Sticky said. "October 31 was the original release date. In October, people were coming up to me, asking me about Onyx. By December, people knew that I was going solo. In January, people knew the name of the album. In February, they knew that I played a character in the movie. In March, they knew me as Kirk Jones. They hadn't gotten the picture yet. They're putting the puzzle together now."

Sticky is filming a film to accompany his LP. The film star Fredro Starr, Michael Rapaport, Omar Epps and Treach. Sticky is also scheduled to star in the upcoming films, Lift and MacArthur Park. He and Nelly is also scheduled to do a college tour which starts with SUNY Geneseo in Geneseo, New York on April 17, 2001.

Australian Herald Sun's UTEOT Review
Posted Tuesday, April 17, 2001 by Rukas
The Australian Herald Sun has reviewed Until The End Of Time giving it 2.5 out of 5. This coming from a newspaper that has repeatedly and unfairly put hip-hop down, and from what I'm told, they have even said kids should listen to Marilyn Manson before listening to hip-hop. Also, its pretty funny considering they gave Born Again more then 2.5 which, in my opinion, was total shit compared to UTEOT. Here is the review:

2Pac
Until The End Of Time (Universal)
'Herald Sun' April 12, 2001
Author - Cyclone Wehner

The late Tupac Shakur (or 2Pac) has spawned an industry, with this double-album the latest in a never ending series of posthumous works. Until The End Of Time (A US No.1) features out-takes from the rapper's volatile Makaveli phase. the problem is that Shakur's vocals are not complemented by strong backing tracks -- the R&B-styled post production sounds monotonous and inappropriate. The title-track is based on Mr Mister's 80's hit Broken Wings at a time when obvious samples are played out. Shakur's material would benefit from cutting-edge beats by The RZA or DJ Premier - or even, for something different, Roni Size.

The verdict - two and a half stars
In a word - B-grade

Puffy arrested off his scooter
Posted Monday, April 16, 2001 by Jon
pdiddy.jpg (21322 bytes)MIAMI BEACH, Fla. (AP) Rapper Sean Combs was arrested Saturday and charged with driving with a suspended license after police pulled him over while he was riding a scooter along Ocean Drive, a South Beach strip. Police pulled Combs over about 6 p.m. for making an illegal lane change, said Miami Beach Police Sgt. Peter Bitume.

A driver's license check showed Combs' license was suspended, so he was arrested and released 20 minutes later after he signed a promise to appear in court, Bitume said.

The charge is a misdemeanor punishable by a fine of up to $500 and possibly jail time, Bitume said.

Combs was acquitted last month of bribery and weapons charges stemming from a shooting at a New York nightclub in which three people were injured. A member of his entourage was convicted of first-degree assault and is scheduled to be sentenced Monday.

Outlawz don't dis Thugline Records
Posted Thursday, April 12, 2001 by Jon
When people heard the song "Breathin" by 2pac and Outlawz, many people believed that the Outlawz dissed Thugline because at the end of EDI's verse, he said "Style-bitin THUGLINE niggaz give it up, we hit 'em up." To clear things up, EDI did not diss Thugline and in fact said "Thug lyin'" in stead of "Thugline." To confirm this, Thugline Records producer Super Sako said that the Outlawz often stop by the Thugline studios to visit Asu (who used to roll with 2pac and the Outlawz and was one of the artists that were signed with Makaveli Records) and Krayzie Bone and get drunk off Sin (the video footage will be featured on "Thugline Uncut" later this year). Also, the Outlawz will be featured on Thugline's album, which is slated for a September 2001 release. Also, Super Sako's compilation album will feature 2pac, Bone Thugs, Thugline, Phace Phore, Jay-Z and more. No word on Super Sako's compilation album release date.

Daz discuss Dillinger & Young Gotti
Posted Thursday, April 12, 2001 by Chris
D.P.G.'s second album, Dillinger & Young Gotti, is scheduled to be released by D.P.G. Records/Southwest Records on May 1, 2001. The album features songs including the first single and video is "Coastin,'" "Gangsta Like" featuring Xzibit, "Gitta Strippin'" and "My Heart Don't Pump No Fear." The album features guest appearances by Beanie Sigel, RBX and Slip Capone and production by Daz Dillinger and Kurupt.

"We're going to work this independent like a major," Daz said in a recent interview with MTV. "We're trying to show these big labels we can move something small and make it big. We own this record, and this is what everybody's been waiting for for like five, six years."

"Whatever came across when we put up the beat is what we rapped about, said Daz. "The songs just came automatically. We've got 41 songs that didn't get on the album. I just put the hard ones on there."

"I'm independent, so I'm using all of this to my advantage, said Daz. "I'm using all of these tactics for the street, independent hustle and making it large."

Daz is currently in the studio working on his third solo album, This Is The Life I Lead, Kurupt's third solo album, Space Boogie and the a host of "D.P.G. America" albums. D.P.G. are already planing their third album, The Gangsta Shit. He's also planing to tap into the New Orleans rap game and release rock music.

"I'm going from state to state and messing with the local tycoons that's rapping," Daz said. "I've got a distribution deal where I can come out with a record every Tuesday as long as I get it ready." "I'm going to do a D.P.G. Texas, a D.P.G. Colorado."

"How Dr. Dre and Snoop have their chemistry, we can do the same thing," Daz said. "Their fans are our fans. We're going to pick up the trails they did. It's just two dogs sniffing, finding their way back home."

Tupac in Newsweek
Posted Wednesday, April 11, 2001 by Jon
Dead Man Rises to No. 1

The only things missing in Tupac Shakur's Elvis-like posthumous career are the Vegas impersonators. Shakur hit No. 1 last week with a new double album, "Until the End of Time," while the people who brought you "Rent" launched "Up Against the Wind," an off-Broadway play based on the rapper's life. It's not like fans have beem starved for material since Shakur was murdered five years ago. "Time" brings his postmortem catalog to five albums, with another double CD coming this fall. He's also had a book of poetry published and starred in a movie since 1996. "He's more alive than he was when he walked the earth," says Michael Eric Dyson, whose book "Holler If You Hear Me: My Search for Tupac" hits stores in September. And with nearly 200 more unreleased tracks still in the vaults, Tupac will be hollering back for a while.

Jayo Felony speaks on his beef with Jay-Z
Posted Wednesday, April 11, 2001 by Chris
"Jay-Z snitched to Def Jam head Lyor Cohen and tried to keep the song from being put out," Jayo Felony said in a recent interview with MTV about "True'd Up (The Crip Anthem)." "We got calls from Lyor and everybody about not putting this record out. I feel like this: If we're on the streets, keep it on the streets. Don't go to the higher-ups."

"They're trying to say it's a East Coast/West Coast thing, and it's not," Jayo said who's from California and also has a dis toward Snoop Dogg on his album, Crip Hop, due out June, 2001. "'True'd Up' is coming out on an East Coast record label; it was recorded on the East Coast, and an East Coast producer made the track. They can't make this no East Coast/West Coast shit, 'cause I got too much love out there."

"My thing was, how's a nigga gonna make a song like 'Change The Game' where he talks about 'I wear more bling to The Source and Soul Trains, more chains than rings, niggas won't do a thing' Jayo said. "He knows it ain't going down like that."

"True'd Up (The Crip Anthem)" will be on Jayo's fourth album, Crip Hop, and Bullet Proof Vol. 1 which is scheduled to be released by Henchmen Entertainment on June 5, 2001 as well.

"It's like [Jay-Z] called the police on me," Henchmen Entertainment CEO Jimmy Henchmen said. "I couldn't understand why he felt so strong about the record. Rap was built on dis records. He dissed niggas on records before, talking about [how] he's 'the one' and all this. He can't feel he's untouchable."

"If their artist would've never said that funny shit out his mouth, I wouldn't have never have to say anything about Jay-Z," Jayo said. "I don't need Def Jam. I made my own name."

New 2PacLegacy Intro
Posted Tuesday, April 10, 2001 by Rukas
2PacLegacy.com has a new flash intro, make sure to check it out. It has a (correct me if I'm wrong) never before seen photo of Pac holding a red rose and also says that Until The End Of Time has sold 700000 copies so far. It also plays a sample of 'Good Life' in the background. I hope that this means 'Good Life' will be the next single, this is one of my favorite tracks on the album and would do really well as a single. Another interesting thing is that it uses 2Pac's old logo, something Afeni hasn't done in a while.

Master P talking shit
Posted Tuesday, April 10, 2001 by Chris
Today Lil' Romeo and Master P was on 106th And Park on BET. When they introduced "Until The End Of Time"--which was number three--they asked, "P, you did a song with Pac, right?" and P answered, "Yeah, with Pac and Scarface (Homies & Thuggs)." What he "forgot" to mention is that Tupac's verse was taken from a freestyle which was edited into the song. He also said that Tupac got him and C-Murder started and that they used to tour back in the day. He lied about the first thing so he might as well been lying the second.

Tupac article in Time
Posted Tuesday, April 10, 2001 by Chris
Here's an article about Tupac from the latest issue of Time:

When hundreds of fans take to the internet and radio hot lines daily to swear they glimpsed you dancing in a nightclub or slipping out of a recording studio--five years after you were laid to rest--it's a sure sign something special is going on. So it goes with the firebrand rapper Tupac Shakur, whose celebrity has swelled into a mystique of near Elvis-like intensity since his death in a Las Vegas drive-by in 1996 at age 25. Shakur was an electrifying rapper whose flashes of gangsta bravado (like the petulant song "Hit 'Em Up") were counterbalanced by a gentle sweetness (the tender ode "Dear Mama"). This seesaw battle--played out in his music and his life--made him a fascinatingly complicated figure, and the urge to hold on to him is understandable.

Yet the cult of Shakur consists of much more than imaginary sightings. It has quickly become a commercially potent multimedia phenomenon spinning off millions of dollars and working its way into the cultural mainstream along paths not usually traveled by hip-hop artists. Last week Shakur's new double CD, Until The End Of Time (Amaru/Death Row), debuted at the top of the charts. It is his fifth posthumous recording, and the second to hit No. 1. Meanwhile, the New York Theatre Workshop--whose past hits include Rent--has just unveiled a play about him that could spark even more interest. Up Against The Wind dramatizes the turbulent final years of Shakur's life--his increasingly sharp verbal skills, his growing attraction to gangsta rap and his fateful signing with Death Row Records. Shakur is turning up in bookstores too: a collection of his poems--The Rose That Grew from Concrete--published last year by Simon & Schuster, drew enthusiastic reader reviews. And it won't be long before a Shakur bio plays on the screen; MTV and several film companies are kicking around scripts. "He is a pop-culture icon," says Michael Develle Winn, the playwright behind Up Against The Wind. "People say he's alive because they can't bear the thought that he died so senselessly."

At the center of all things Tupac is his mother Afeni Shakur, 54, a former imprisoned Black Panther who has transformed herself into hard-nosed keeper of the flame, hiring advisers to watch over her son's legacy but calling the shots herself. After a court battle, Afeni won control of Tupac's master tapes, worth millions of dollars. (The court also ruled that Death Row--the label to which Tupac was signed at his death--is entitled to a cut of the proceeds from recordings he made under contract.)

Afeni, who admits to having struggled with crack as Shakur's career blossomed, has devoted herself to the business of turning her son's death into a message of redemption. She has plenty of material to work with. Shakur was a prolific artist who in life released four albums, made six films and wrote more than 100 poems. He also left behind hours of unreleased tapes. Using earnings from his earlier albums, Afeni created a new record label--Amaru (Tupac Amaru is an Incan name meaning Shining Serpent)--endowed a foundation and opened a performing-arts camp in Stone Mountain, Ga., like the one her son attended as a child. "The arts saved Tupac," says Afeni.

Until The End Of Time, drawn from a fertile period of Shakur's life--1995 and early 1996--shows that his mother knows how to choose wisely. The CDs are packed with his resonant, staccato rapping and poignant subject matter. "Letter 2 My Unborn" (Shakur left no children), eerie in its prescience about dying childless, is the sort of work that will nourish his mystique. Says poet Nikki Giovanni, who has studied Shakur extensively: "There's an old Nigerian proverb: You're not dead until you're forgotten." By that measure, Tupac lives.

Jayo Felony/Jay-Z beef
Posted Monday, April 9, 2001 by Chris
Jayo Felony's fourth album, Crip Hop, is scheduled to be released by Bayside Entertainment Distribution in July, 2001. It'll feature guest appearances by the Outlawz, Dulo Gang, Ja Rule, Rockwilder, Spice 1 and Snoop Dogg. Click here to listen to "Trued Up" which will be on the album.

"Trued Up" is dissing Jay-Z. Jayo is tired of West Coast rappers who let Jay-Z get away with talking about bloods and crips in his songs. That's one reason they've got beef, another is because Jayo recorded a song titled "One Shot Kills" for Hotter Than Fish Grease which was never released due to Jayo leaving Def Jam Recordings. Jay-Z who also is signed with Def Jam heard the song and in "Change The Game" he says, "One shot killing you."
