New Alive Theory - Last Ones Left |
| Posted Friday, March 30, 2001 by Jon |
I do believe that Tupac has passed away, however I couldn't help but notice the significance that the song Last Ones Left has in supporting the alive theories.
The following line by Tupac is similar to when Suge drove over the median in Las Vegas and started heading down a one way street.
Tupac Picture me doing 80 down a one way, stuck in the trunk, call it gun play, so I gotta keep my eyes open gettin high, wondering why we gotta die smoking, my alibi, a different way, break then open fire cause I'm marked for death, spending my nights like I'm the last one left
This line by Napoleon is pretty self explanatory.
Napoleon Only got my side cause they think Pac died nigga, last niggas with our tech, take a shot was in our vest, Pac come and catch break, nigga we the last ones left
Check the song out, these lyrics might not be 100% correct as they are a little hard to make out. You heard it here first.

Tupac on Australian TV |
| Posted Friday, March 30, 2001 by Jon |
What is it with Australian TV shows pronouncing Tupac as 2Pack? It seems pretty consistent.
Anyway, Tupac was mentioned by RAGE on ABC in Australia guest hosted by Shaun Ryder from Happy Mondays (an English band). He played serveral Tupac songs, "California Love", "How Do U Want It" and "I Ain't Mad At Cha."
He said he believed "2pack" was the greatest entertainer he had come across in his lifetime and said his music was so good because he didn't just stick to that gangsta bollocks and even when he talked about gangs and ho's he went about it more intellegently. Shaun went on to say that if "2pack" were alive today he would have grown out of the gangsta lifestyle and realised that it was a bunch of bollocks. He also said the lifestyle "2pack" chose was very difficult to get out of and hinted that's what lead to his death. He finished by saying that "2pack" died in the prime of his life. |

'Til the End of time' in Ray J Interview |
| Posted Friday, March 30, 2001 by Jon |
Ray J Prepares to Drop "This Ain't a Game"
Ray J also expressed that This Ain't a Game was packed with hits and that five or six singles will be released from the project. He talked about the follow up single stating, "The second single is a ballad called "Keep Your Head Up." It's a strong message to all the women out there that's crying, going through problems trying to make ends meet. It's kind of a R&B version of what Tupac did."
Speaking of Tupac Shakur, Ray J will also be singing the chorus to a previously unreleased track entitled "Unborn Child" that will be featured on the second installment of the legendary rapper's forthcoming posthumous double CD. |

Tupac mentions in Murder Dog |
| Posted Wednesday, March 28, 2001 by Chris |
Tupac is mentioned in several interviews in the latest issue of Murder Dog. Below is the parts of the interviews in which he's mentioned:
In the song "What If?" you ask what it would be like if Tupac and Biggie Smalls were still alive. What do you think it would be like if they were still around?
Fredro Starr: If Biggie was here, as far as New York is concerned, I think he would be the king of New York still. But you've got great rappers. I'm not trying to discredit anybody when I say things like that. But this is "what if?" I think if Pac was here, I think rappers I'm not saying no names I think their careers would be a little bit different. I think people took pieces and bits of this guy and turned it into them own selves. I'm not saying they bit him completely, but if he was still here I don't think their record sales would be up to par like that.
You sound really focused on the song "Dyin' 4 Rap." What inspired you on that track?
That is a record of how I felt about the industry. I wasn't really inspired by rap music. Niggas were really takin' advantage of this shit, and I said what I felt. Now, the remix with Capone-N-Noreaga, the Outlawz and Cuban Link is some shit. When I say dyin' for rap, Noble and the Outlawz, they know somethin' about dyin' for rap because Tupac died. I got Cuban Link. He knows somethin' about dyin' for rap because Big Pun died. And I got Capone-N-Noreaga because they know about dyin' for rap because Capone just came home from jail. So all them niggas on that record are just real niggas I know in hip-hop. There wasn't no "I'm jumping on your dick because your record sales are climbing." These are still underground artists and I wanted them niggas to be on with me. They lost somebody, so I thought they were appropriate for the record. I had Cheeks on the record, too, from Lost Boyz, because he lost Tah. But politics and shit couldn't let him be on the record, being that his record deal was gonna through some shit. But that was the direction I was going in. What do you think of that Strait Zoo-ism album with Warlock?
What do you think of that Strait Zoo-ism album with Warlock?
JT Money: It was a waste. I actually thought it was kinda good at the time. There's still a couple songs on there. I could kick back right now and think, "This is wasted, they didn't even hear this." That's what I always think, "They think this is hot? Let me play you some of my old shit, shoot you hard." But I don't never say nothing. I be chilling like, "Y'all just don't know. But the ones who knowing, they know for real."
After that we didn't hear from you for a while.
I was getting my head right. I was still doing shows. Still able to eat, still didn't have to work no slave labor. But I was just getting right. I had a run in or two with them folks about my paperwork. They violatin me and slipping that bullshit. I was trying to get to that major thing, cause at that time the game was starting to get major. '94, '95, '96, they started getting a lotta TV and radio. That's when Pac and Biggie was just coming up kinda. They was getting the multimedia. I was like, "Fuck this local shit down hear in Miami, I gotta get where the money at." That's when I went up to Atlanta. '98. And I got me a deal and so forth. And I'm here today. Miami couldn't offer me nothing. Everything down there was Luke. Everybody else was just leaves that fell off the Luke tree.
Let's about the next Mac Mall joint.
Mac Mall: Actually I'm puttin out my first solo Sessed Out release, and it's called Immaculate. The first track on the album is "Mac Jesus." That's basically telling you where my head is at. It talks about all the shit I been through, from Illegal Business? 2000 to now. The success that I done had from that, to the name sayers, to love I done felt, to the hate I done felt. It's life. I have a song on there with Federal Insane, my kinfolks, my New Jersey kinfolks. We do it real big on that song. The record is produced by Khayree - who did a lotta platinum shit, from Pac to 40. And a new producer that I'm bringin to the table, who's also my DJ, DJ Yon. And I can't forget, my folks Dion. He also produced for Pac. And Shock G did a vicious song that me and him did together on my record. I feel like I owe my fans. Through all the shit, my fans stayed with me and supported me, dude. I feel responsible for my music and what I bring to the table. I think they're gonna be happy.
When's the album releasing?
It'll be out February 26. By the time everybody reads this it'll be in stores already. People know what to expect from me. There were people before me. I'm not saying that I started it. But I am saying that I perfected it, cuz. I pay respects to those that came before me. All praises. But I perfected it. I'm takin the game to where it needs to be. If you look right now at the game - Pac said that he was gonna make thugs outta suckers, and he really did. It's hella niggas now. But on the other side of that coin there's motherfuckers who tryna go heavy on that playa shit, who goin heavy on that pimp shit, but they ain't never got no dough from a hoe. Callin him pimp cause he got an outfit. Cats nowadays, they tryna come like Donald Goines, which is one of my favorite authors. I did that when I was 13 and 14 and 15, now I'm on some Makaveli shit. You gotta elevate your game. Now I'm a grown man at 24, and this shit is serious. Now Mac Mall is a corporation. This Sessed Out Records, we on some corporate shit. Now I'm tryin to reach my hand out to some young brothas who starting out like me. Young brothas that can get focused on their dreams and really go after it.
You got a taste of the major deal and then you decided to get back independent.
I decided to own my masters, put my own record out. I had distribution, I been havin distribution. I got distribution with Bayside now. We brought the Sessed Out staff out here. We got the whole roster line up. We got R&B acts. Got tight rappers like Ray Luv, he's fuckin with the Moses Soul Music Group. We're doin our thing out here Sessed Out Records/Moses Soul. That's me and my manager, Leila.
I heard she was Tupac's former manager.
Please believe it. She's been through it all. She been with me since I was sixteen years old. We're doin our thug thing. I'm doing shit with Quincy Jones. It's like a family thing, cause QD3 did the track.
What kind of mark do you hope to make in the rap game in the years to come?
Project Pat: I'm gonna be honest with you. I just want to get this money. I want to sell me some millions. I want to go into this game like Nelly and them niggas. That's what I like. He came up, he did his thing. That's what I'm looking at; that's where I'm trying to get to. Like Pac. He came out of jail and he sold five million. Man, that's love. That's what I'm trying to do. I'm trying to get a piece of this money out here because once you do that, you've done did it.
What music were you listening to back when you started rapping?
Kyjuan: From N.W.A. to Luke to Geto Boys, Wu-Tang, MC Eiht, Too Short, E-40, everything.
Ali: It was the same thing, though. Everybody liked different shit. Like Murphy, the young dude, he was like twelve, eleven years old. He liked Spice 1. Collectively we all dug Tupac, E-40, Spice 1. Me, back then, I was into Wu-Tang. I was into Gang Starr, De La Soul, Native Tongue. Me personally, I was into a lotta underground hip-hop. To this day Wu-Tang is my favorite, but then it was brand new and it was amazing. And I also like N.W.A. and DJ Quik. Altogether we liked every aspect of the music. We loved the Bay Area, with the Click - D-Shot, Suga T - Spice 1, Too Short, we loved all that. We heavy on the Down South, we heavy on the Miami Bass sound. |

Tupac mentions |
| Posted Tuesday, March 27, 2001 by Jon |
On DJ Clue's cd The Professional 2 there are several mentions to Tupac other than the Eminem mention we reported earlier. On the song "Change Da Game" Jay-Z gives a shoutout to Tupac and they recite the "Ride die da da da" similar to "Hail Mary". It will be interesting when the new Tupac album drops tomorrow dissing Jay-Z. Also on the cd Redman makes reference to Tupac in the song "Red" saying "I'm like Bishop who shoots all his friends in Juice". Of course Tupac played the role of Bishop in the movie "Juice".
In the movie "Exit Wounds" starring Steven Segal and also featuring DMX, Anthony Andersen is handcuffed by Segal and responds "Who do you think I am, Tupac?"
In Bizzy Bone's album The Gift Bizzy mentions Tupac on the song "Before I go" saying "I don't think I'ma make it alive cause if I do, I'll be institu -- tionalized, thugged out, ever since Pac died, I know what thugs is all about, making sacrifice for Christ, these muthaphukkas' never gonna kill me twice."
Layzie Bone (L-Burna) mentions Tupac twice in his new album Thug By Nature. First, in a song called "Battlefield", when addressing rappers "Do or Die", he says "I'm chin-checking these muthaphukkas popping it off if you lip, they've been talking that sh-t since '96 disrespecting my clique, but I'm like Pac muthaphukkas I'ma bomb first, and like I do you in the verse, b----h nigga I put you in the hearse." Then in "As The Rain" Layzie says, "Every year 'gotta bury one more nigga in the cemetery, this life be wicked n' scary, so I buck the shell up in me daily. Rest in peace Kary, Wally, Eazy, Terry and Boo, Babiboi, Uncle Charles, Biggie and TUPAC remember I'm witchu."
Eminem and D12 have a new song titled "No One's Iller" which has background music oddly similar to "Shorty wanna be a Thug." |

SonicNet Article About 2Pac |
| Posted Saturday, March 24, 2001 by Rukas |
SonicNet.com has posted an extreamly tight article about Tupac and Until The End Of Time.
Talk About Life After Death: Tupac Legacy Grows Along With Catalog Rapper/actor's fourth posthumous LP drops Tuesday — and there's more to come.
Even though Tupac Shakur was labeled the "James Dean of hip-hop" during the final turbulent years of his life, it seems the iconic rapper may have more in common with Elvis Presley.
Besides the fact that conspiracy-theorist fans of both artists believe their fallen heroes are still alive, Presley and 'Pac have become legendary in their respective genres, inspiring conferences and tributes — and enthralling fans with their music years after their deaths.
And now, a fourth posthumous Tupac album, the double disc Until the End of Time, arrives in stores on Tuesday, garnering the rapper/actor's work even more attention.
Tupac's first three albums after he was killed in Las Vegas in 1996 by unknown assailants — 1996's The Don Killuminati: The 7 Day Theory (under the name Makaveli), 1997's R U Still Down? (Remember Me) and 1999's Still I Rise (with the Outlawz) — have sold nearly 7 million copies, while the four albums he released while he was alive have sold 9 million. Add to that a triple-platinum greatest hits album released in 1998 and dozens of bootlegs of his material, not to mention assorted songs on various other releases, including Death Row Records' Too Gangsta for Radio. Another two-disc Tupac set is scheduled for release in November.
"Now that he's gone, people are embracing him more than ever because he was really saying something," says producer DJ Hi-Tek. "He's a real role model because of his strength and his I-don't-give-a-f--- attitude toward bullsh--. He died too early, right at his peak. That's why I feel people can't let him go."
Other rappers, such as the Notorious B.I.G., Big Punisher and Big L, have also had material released posthumously, but none of it has enjoyed the critical and commercial success of Tupac's posthumous releases.
Many industry insiders say that's because Tupac was seen as more than just a rapper.
"He was like a leader, not a rapper," said Trick Daddy, who is on the long list of rhymers accused of adopting Tupac's thug aesthetic. "He was like [Nation of Islam leader Louis] Farrakhan. People believed in what he said and they took it to heart. Other people just make music. Pac couldn't make a bad album, a bad song. Biggie was good too, but he [only] had good music. Pac was like a visionary."
Added Big Boy, a radio personality for Power 106 in Tupac's adopted hometown of Los Angeles: "Tupac was so far ahead of his time. I haven't heard the entire [Until the End of Time] album, but he is right on target about things happening today."
Tupac's vision, some feel, is what allows his music to remain relevant to hip-hop fans who choose new heroes almost as quickly as they choose which outfit they're going to wear to the club this weekend. Whereas many other popular rappers deal with material items that can change from season to season, Tupac tackled more personal, timeless issues: jealousy, pain, deceit, love, lust and rage.
"I'm not really into Nelly and Jay-Z because all they talk about is being rich," says Priscilla Ochoa, a Long Beach, California, resident who is a die-hard Tupac fan. "I can't identify with that. ... Tupac has songs that are about being a player, but a lot of his songs are about his life and what he went through, which is why I think people can relate to him."
It's also been much easier to relate to Tupac since his death because of the seemingly endless onslaught of new, good material from his estate. Unlike Biggie, whose second posthumous album, 1999's Born Again, and Big L, whose sole posthumous release, 2000's The Big Picture, featured previously released material from mix tapes, freestyles and B-sides, most of Tupac's posthumous material had never been released in any form. It is estimated that he left behind 150 unreleased songs when he died, far more than Biggie, Big L or Big Punisher, the latter of whom has a second posthumous album, Endangered Species, scheduled to arrive in stores April 3.
"Tupac was prolific from the time that he began writing, which was probably about 6 years old," said Tupac's mother, Afeni Shakur, who was an executive producer of Until the End of Time. As long as there are unreleased Tupac songs there will be more albums, she said.
"He didn't change and start to be prolific, change and start to be good. Before he was murdered, he did a lot with his time and his life."
Said Julio G, an on-air personality for Los Angeles radio station 100.3 "The Beat": "I've worked with rappers before and they don't record like that. When I listen to his stuff, I really, really analyze what he was writing before his death. He must have known what was going to happen because had he lived, there's no way all of that could have been released during his lifetime."
Since his death, however, much of the discussion surrounding Tupac has focused on his music, but Preston Holmes, a movie producer who worked with Tupac, said the medium wasn't even his strongest.
"I think he was an extremely talented person on a number of levels and he found several outlets to express himself," said Holmes, a co-producer of "Juice" and the executive producer of "Gridlock'd," two of Tupac's most critically acclaimed roles.
"I think his poetry gives a more accurate picture of who he is than anything else that he did," Holmes said. "When you're performing, you somewhat become what the audience wants, but when you're writing poetry, it's more of one-on-one conversations with yourself."
As far as his musical legacy, it's clear that Tupac and his works — all of them — will continue to resonate.
" 'Pac was a strong influence on the game," said Bone Thugs-N-Harmony's Krayzie Bone, whose group featured Tupac on its 1997 album, The Art of War. "He brought excitement and was the type of artist that always had you wondering what he was going to do next. I know that I buy every album that comes out." |

Shyne Speaks Out Against Puffy |
| Posted Thursday, March 22, 2001 by Rukas |
After over a year of silence and following his conviction (click here for details), Shyne has finally spoken out about Puffy.
Shyne, who is currently in jail awaiting sentencing and is facing a maximum of 25 years has accused Combs of betraying him and lying on the witness stand.
"He proved that he was just there to save himself," Shyne said. "There are no boundaries to what he would do to exonerate himself. I had the Bible in front of me, and I was just praying that he wouldn't continue to lie."
After the shooting, Shyne claimed that Puffy, who Shyne never really considered a friend, stopped talking to him and tried to drop plans to release Shyne's debut album on Bad Boy.
"We would speak only through lawyers. He was afraid to put my album out because he wanted to distance himself from me, Combs wanted the relationship to be minimal and not have me publicized. I don't think they promoted me as much as they could have and gave everything they could have given because of him."
Shyne will be sentenced on April 16th.
This whole thing just keeps adding to the ever growing list proving that Puffy is a bitch. |

More about the UPN13 Tupac special |
| Posted Wednesday, March 21, 2001 by Chris |
| They showed clips of Tupac's videos. They asked fans why they got love for him, all of them answered that he was original, one of them said he kicked deep lyrics that everybody could relate to and even though he was on the top of the rap game he was still talking about the stuggle and didn't sell out like a lot of other rappers. Later E.D.I. came out and talked about how the legacy is going on and how he's helping it move on. |

DMX's Acting Compared To Tupac's |
| Posted Tuesday, March 20, 2001 by Rukas |
Exit Wounds starring Steven Seagal and DMX was released last week debuting at number 1 on the box office, making over $19 million in its opening weekend.
DailyRadar.com reviewed the movie and had this to say about DMX’s performance:
“It's painfully obvious that Hollywood is attempting to repackage DMX as the next Tupac Shakur. But there's a fatal flaw in their plan - Tupac could act, DMX can't.”
And under an image of DMX, there is a caption saying “No, I will not do the Humpty Dance”.

Puffy gets off while Shyne gets f--ked |
| Posted Sunday, March 18, 2001 by Jon |
I can't say I find this suprising at all. In fact the thought that Puffy might actually go to jail didn't cross my mind until Puff Daddy was officially acquitted. While Puffy was happy to be free Shyne was convicted of two counts of assault, reckless endangerment, gun possession and will likely serve prison time.
If you want details in the case here. |

My Brother's Keeper |
| Posted Friday, March 16, 2001 by Chris |
Below is an article/interview about Mopreme and his upcoming album, Mopreme Shakur: Life And Law, from the latest issue of The Source:
Mopreme (a.k.a. Komeni, Wycked or Mocedes) has a habit of changing monikers to fit his situation. But the name he most cherishes is Shakur, the one he shares with his legendary half-brother, Tupac. In a wrinkled white T-shirt, black jeans and sneakers. The 30-something Mopreme resembles a weathered, more down-to-earth Pac (they have the same father). But his controversial sibling is not his only claim to fame. Over a decade ago, Mopreme's voice became familiar to millions when he made his hip-hop debut on Tony Toni Tone's hit single, "Feels Good." "I've been rapping ever since rap was born," exaggerates the mild-mannered MC as he lounges in his modest-sized Los Angeles recording studio. Throughout the '90's, Mopreme, who also counts Oakland, New York and Virginia as homes, rapped steadily, appearing on tracks with Bay Area MC's Rappin 4-Tay and Mac Mall. He also helped form the Outlaw and Thug Life along with his brother.
Despite his persistence, Mopreme's career reached a standstill in the mid-'90s. He was especially disappointed when the Pac-fueled outfit Thug Life didn't lift off the ground. Mopreme explains Thug Life's setbacks somberly: "Pac was going through some things. It was a lot of street shit. He had like 15 cases at one time. The vice president (Dan Quayle) was saying his name. Plus, the label didn't want to put out Thug Life, the original version. It was too hard."
After Tupac's death, Mopreme was too overcome with grief to continue rapping. At one point, he even contemplated starting a talent management company. But when he met Giovanni Wolfgang, founder of Status Records, at a party in 1999, he changed his mind. Wolfgang helped him realize that hip-hop was his destiny. "(Mopreme) struck me as a guy who had a whole lot to say," Wolfgang recalls. "I felt like he should be doing music. So I told him, "Don't give up on your dream now. Don't close off the opportunity for other people to hear where you're coming from."
A listen to Mopreme's solo debut, Mopreme Shakur: Life and Law, tentatively scheduled for a March release on Status, reveals just how broad his vision is. On... Life And Law, the rapper deftly interweaves thuggery, social commentary and old-school sensibility. "I have some politically and socially conscious songs, some rider/representing songs for my dogs that passed on, some for sisters in trouble and I got some party songs," he says.
As expected, Pac is an influence as well. Mopreme refers to his remake of Cat Stevens's "Wild World" (in which he details the harsh realities of single motherhood) as his "Brenda's Got a Baby." Though he's hesitant to admit it Mopreme confesses that he's been told his voice sounds like his brother's. The lyrical similarities are unquestionable. With Mopreme's angry allusions to lawyers and criminal charges, violence and abuse, it sometimes sounds as if Pac himself got hold of the mic.
And that's Mopreme's intention. He says he wanted his album to reflect the Pac's vision for Thug Life. "Thug Life was supposed to be in the community. We were supposed to be teaching school, helping drug-addicted kids. It was supposed to be more of a social thing because the game was way out of control. There are no rules. There's no respect no honor. Its open game on everybody, mamas, kids... People seeing all this money, all the buying and greed; it's not good."
There's two errors in article, Tupac and Mopreme is stepbrothers, not halfbrothers and they don't have the same father. Tupac's father is Billy Garland and Mopreme's father is Mutulu Shakur. |

Krayzie Bone talk about Tupac and Puffy |
| Posted Thursday, March 15, 2001 by Chris |
"There's a lot of people that are against him right now," Krayzie Bone said about Puff Daddy in a recent interview with MTV. "I don't really know the facts of the case, but it seems like there's a lot of people that want to see him fall. I guess it's just something about him."
Krazyie also said that the beef between Tupac and Puffy is at least partly to blame. "Ever since that shit with him and Pac was going on, it seems like people just took Pac's side." |

Official Tracklist Mistake |
| Posted Thursday, March 15, 2001 by Rukas |
Just an interesting note on the tracklist below, http://www.interscope.com/2pac/ has misspelled some of the track names.
DISC 1: 'Ballad Of a Dead Soul' should be 'Ballad Of a Dead Soulja' 'Letters 2 My Unborn' should be 'Letter 2 My Unborn' 'F**kin Wit The Wrong' should be 'F**kin Wit The Wrong Ni**a' 'Everything They Own' should be 'Everything They Owe' 'World Wide Figgaz' should be 'World Wide Mob Figgaz'
DISC 2: 'Skye Interlude T2001' should be 'Syke Interlude T2001' 'Last One Left' should be 'Last Ones Left'
Prehaps they should get some Pac fans to run that section of their site, I'm up to the job if any of you Interscope people are reading. |

God Bless the Dead - Biggie Smalls |

When Tupac's greatest hits came out everybody was a bit shocked by the reference on "God Bless the Dead" where Tupac said "Rest in peace to my motherf---er Biggie Smalls". Tupac of course died 6 months prior to The Notorious BIG. Tupac was referring to "Big D The Impossible aka Biggie Smalls, not Christopher Wallace. Check out the audio below.
