Tupac mentioned on BET comic skit
Posted Saturday, December 30, 2000 by Jon
BET's comic view last night did a sketch where OJ Simpson was performing a comedy routine to a largely white audience. The audience starts to boo and call him a murdered. OJ gets all pissed off and says "They've been dead for 5 years! Get over it ! You are still trying to find the murders after 5 years ... what about Tupac and Biggie ? You stopped looking for their murderers before midnight! Yeah you ain't sayin' nothing now! What about the indians who used to live in America. Who killed them ? Or the slaves that came over from Africa ? It's been 5 years, get over it. Hey, why did the chicken cross the road ? To GET OVER IT !! GET OVER IT !!

Tupac mentioned by "Psychic"
Posted Saturday, December 30, 2000 by Jon
The new issue of XXL has a section with "Cleo", a tarrot card reader you might have seen on TV. It said she was a closet hip hop fan & they asked her questions about the upcoming year in hip hop. She said that Eminem would get into more trouble, Puffy and Jennifer Lopez will break up and then they asked her if Tupac was dead she said "no he is alive and well and he is living in the Bahamas".

NSync fans could have made those predictions and she obviously doesn't know anything about Tupac. Psychic my ass.

Raekwon on Tupac
Posted Thursday, December 28, 2000 by Chris
Here's a part of an interview in which Raekwon is talking about Tupac:

Interviewer: What do you think about 2PAC and the West/East Coast beef?

Raekwon: Whatever happened with 2PAC, didn't have to do anything with the East Coast/West Coast thang. What just happened was a beef with a person individually. You're right, he is from from the East, but he is from the West too. He is from the both sides, so we gotta respect is that anytime you see somebody going to something... He can't make a coast go against another coast. That's motherfucking people talking shit and get involved with thangs that them no have to do with it. You know what I mean? And it haven't to do with no coast. Me, personally, when that shit happened, I ain't look at that... I look at it... Like he had problems with assaults. I felt it the same way. If I go for somewhere and a motherfucker disrespect me as a person. Yeah! I scream on that person! And whoever get involved with it, then fuck them too! And in that side he took it! He act like ain't love the East. But people think 'cause he had a beef with the certain individually, then he ain't love the East. And it wasn't that.

Pac mentioned by Fat Joe

Tupac is mentioned on a song by Cuban Link and Fat Joe titled "Why Me". The line starts at 1:33 and goes:

If Pac was here would these niggaz be shining ?
Would half these rappers be rapping so violent ?

It's something I'm glad other rappers see, Tupac made the rap game real, now you got everybody claiming to be a Thug when they're a product of commercialism.

New artist on Death Row ?
Posted Wednesday, December 27, 2000 by Jon
There's been a rumour buzzing around that Deathrow Records is close to signing a new artist by the name of "Confuzious". We've heard through an indirect source that he's just completed recording a song for Deathrow called "After Tha Smoke Clearz" which is a dis to Snoop, Dre and Master P. Apparently the single could be released as soon as next month.

We've got no confirmation and we have no reason to believe that our source is reliable, but we're putting it out to see what responses arrive. If you have any info please email me at jon@hitemup.com

Suge's Xmas Gift

Suge Knight donated $21 000 last week to the Hillsdale Early Head Start Program in Sacramento. The money will be used to rebuild a playground which was destroyed by vandals who set it on fire last month.

"I saw a report about it on local TV," Suge said in a statement. "A playground is the only safe place for kids to play and then somebody comes along and destroys it. A senseless crime that hurts little kids. I called Death Row Records in Los Angeles, told them to find out the cost to rebuild the playground and cut a check to cover it."

Scarface talking about Tupac's death
Posted Thursday, December 21, 2000 by Chris
Below is a part of an interview with Scarface by Hookt.com in which he's talking about him not accepting Tupac's death.

Hookt.com: Does the fact that you have children make you less obsessed with death?

Scarface: Death is the most promising part of life. You can run, you can hide but somewhere along the lines between running and hiding, death awaits us all. No one lives forever. I'm looking forward to death, seeing my friends and my peers.

Especially Tupac?

I dreaded seeing that nigga die. As promising as death is, I couldn't accept Pac's death. I saw the (autopsy) pictures on the internet and I was mad at Pac. I was so mad at this dude. I was literally cursing at this computer picture because I was so mad. Then I had to grab myself and be like we live to die. No matter how tragic or unexpected, it's just in the books.

Jerry Heller wins lawsuit
Posted Tuesday, December 19, 2000 by Chris
Jerry Heller won an appeal in Los Angeles' Second District Court Of Appeals last week in his libel action against Mark "Ronnin Ro" Flores and publishing house, Doubleday. The Second Appellate District court found that the book, Have Gun Will Travel: The Spectacular Rise And Violent Fall Of Death Row Records, which was published by Doubleday and written by Flores contained a false statement about Heller that was "libelous per se" because it exposed Heller to contempt and had the tendency to injure him in his occupation.

Interview with the Outlawz
Posted Tuesday, December 19, 2000 by Chris
Below is an interview with the Outlawz by Hookt.com.

Hookt.com: You were under Tupac's tutelage for so long, was there any advice that prepared you to be on your own?

Napoleon: We were basically living with Pac. When he left, we had to pay our own bills. We had to grow up instead of hanging on his coat tails. He was trying to teach us that all along that "it's gonna be one day when y'all gonna have to wake the hell up and grow up." Which hit us too fast.

On your album, you touched on that transition with a "Soldier To A General," is that what prompted you guys leaving Death Row and putting your album out independently?

E.D.I.: It was business. It was about that time. I respect every man for running their company the way they wanna run their company. But guess what, now I got my own company. I wanna run my company my way. That's what we said. "We know how to guide our careers better than anybody." Rap music has arrived to the point where it's a worldwide entity; it's a billion-dollar entity. All we gotta do is control it. All y'all rappers talking about getting y'all money, I ain't mad, just control it. Don't brag about the money y'all making for (someone else).

You mentioned hip-hop being worldwide, part of Pac's appeal was that he touched everybody. Do you see your music being universal like his?

E.D.I: Our music is street politics but it's also world politics. Wherever it is people are struggling, our music is going to touch those people. It starts in the street of the United States but we talking to kids everywhere.

Does it surprise you that the music that Pac did is still as popular as it is?

E.D.I.: Tupac's legacy didn't stop September 13 1996, it continues to grow. All the people who feel him are still a part of the legacy. They wearing Tupac t-shirts in Africa.

Napoleon: Africa is like a Tupac gang now.

E.D.I.: 20 years from now, they (still) gonna talk about his legacy. That's why its so important for us do our thing, we a big part of that legacy. We're trying to keep it rollin'.

Below is a part of an interview with Snoop Dogg by MTV in which Tupac is the subject.

MTV: When someone says Tupac, what do you think of?

Snoop Dogg: All the good times that we had together, and I look at certain people, how they view him and how they viewed him when he was here, and I look at the real and I look at the fake, and I see who really cared about him and who didn't.

What do you think is his biggest contribution to the hip-hop community and culture?

Awareness. Tupac gave hip-hop awareness through his death. It was sad, but it made everybody aware of the fact that if we want to keep this rap game alive, we got to work with each other, because working against each other is always gonna open the door for violence.

Ride Wit Us Or Collide Wit Us review
Posted Saturday, December 16, 2000 by Chris
Below is Vibe's review of the Outlawz's Ride Wit Us Or Collide Wit Us.

The Outlawz make their first official ride without Tupac with their debut release, Ride Wit Us or Collide Wit Us. After riding shotgun with Pac on such classics as "Hit Em Up" and "Trading War Stories," E.D.I., Young Noble, Kastro, and Napoleon remain in unison despite Pac's untimely death four years ago and deliver pain-driven lyrics that anyone caught up in the struggle can feel.

On the inspirational anthem "Black Rain," Kastro spits, "It's war on the streets / Now gangbangin' done went East / Now the city that never sleeps will never see peace / Bad enough we still killing each other over ducats / Now it's more of us willing to die over colors / Man it's insane / Black Reign." The assault continues on tracks like the haunting "Nobody Cares," which could easily be called "Keep Ya Head Up 2000."

Ride Wit Us or Collide Wit Us features collaborations with T.Q., Spice 1, and Bad Azz, as well as production by Rap-A-Lot's veteran producers, Mike Dean and Mr. Lee. The album also features Geronimo Pratt, who gives a black history lesson by explaining the origin of the infamous "Ride or Die" policy used by the Black Panthers to monitor the police. The same ideology was also instilled within Pac.

However, like all armies who carry on the fight after the loss of a great leader, the Outlawz slip a few times by covering familiar ground on such songs as "Fuck With Me," which could have easily been written in the same studio sessions as "Just Like Daddy" and "Baby Don't Cry." Nonetheless, they quickly redeem themselves on "Good Bye" where they discuss death, child abuse, poverty, and uplifting black women.

Ride Wit Us or Collide Wit Us is not the polished diamond in a Cartier watch, but the Outlawz still have what Pac first introduced to the world when they called themselves Dramacydal. Although the death of their leader was a heavy blow to them, the Outlawz ensure that the spirits of Makaveli, Yak, and Thug Life live on.

Prodigy robbery confirmed
Posted Wednesday, December 13, 2000 by Jon
On the song Wanna Be Thugs on Prodigy's new album H.N.I.C (which may be a dis to Tupac [Lyrics]) he says "Wanna be thugs, flashin jewels get ganked". It's been confirmed that Prodigy had about $343,000 dollars worth of jewelry "ganked" from him. Most of the jewelry was only rented for the video shoot (what's with fake ballers these days anyway) and was insured. The robbery took place not far from where Prodigy and Havoc both grew up. It's possible that the robbery was staged to take the jewels and have insurance of the jewelry store they were rented from cover the loss.

Posted Tuesday, December 12, 2000 by Chris
Last Thursday, Dr. Dre stated that the N.W.A. reunion album have been put on hold. "We got a couple of things down, nothing that I'm happy with, so they don't mean anything," Dr. Dre said. The group has been unable to work on the album due to that they've been busy with their own careers. "The status of N.W.A right now remains in limbo, because everybody that's supposed to be a part of this record has their own careers, and they're out doing their things. [Ice] Cube is working on a big special-effect movie, Snoop [Dogg] has a record coming out and is gonna promote that, and I'm working with my new artists, trying to do my thing. I have no idea when that record's gonna happen, or if it's gonna happen," Dre said "The status of N.W.A right now remains in limbo, because everybody that's supposed to be a part of this record has their own careers." Dre himself is currently busy working on female singer, Shari "Truth Hurts" Watson's debut album, Ain't That The Truth?. "I've been looking for a female singer for about eight years now, and I finally found [her]," Dre said. "We've been working really hard to make her stuff come out proper, and we're gonna change the course of music again. I can't even call it R&B, 'cause R&B is rap's bitch. It's some other shit. It's somethin' else. It's singing to my rhythm, and it's definitely gonna make everybody that's out there doing R&B music go back in the studio and rethink and do their shit over — press erase." Another project that Dre will soon start working on is Rakim's upcoming album, Oh My God. "I've always been a fan of Rakim; I've always bought every record twice," Dre said. "He's been one of the reasons why I'm still in hip-hop today. So for me to be able to work with him is a straight-up blessing. I'm just grateful. I'm gonna step into the studio and make this the best record that I've ever made."

Words to My Unborn Audio

DJ Quik has done a remix of Tupac's song Words to my Firstborn. Now I LOVE Quik, but this beat is wack and the song sounds like garbage compared to the original.

Death Row lose another Court Case
Posted Friday, December 8, 2000 by Rukas
Kurupt's former mangers, brothers Lamont and Ken Brumfield were recently awarded $4.3 million in a civil fraud suit against Death Row Records. The jury found that Death Row fucked with their contracts and money. Snoop Dogg, who was charged with convincing Kurupt to split with the Brumfields, and Dr. Dre also testified in the case. Interscope Records who distributed Death Row at the time settled out side of court for an unknown amount. Lamont Brumfield will however have to celebrate the victory alone as his brother, Ken Brumfield is currently serving a 20-year prison sentence for cocaine trafficking.

The truth ...
Posted Friday, December 8, 2000 by Rukas
Just to clear the 2real thing up, the fact is I got emails from certain people saying that 2real was either Hyland or Iverson playing their alias game again. If its not true then I apologies to 2real. But the fact is Hyland and Iverson pulled the same tricks on PhatForum a while back, registering different nicks to support their posts and getting their groupies to post, 2real falls into one of those two categories. As for Iverson and Hyland not being bootleggers, that's absolute bullshit, they were among HipHopSpots' first customers and continually kissed G. Litt's ass until she bought them DRHQ.com and hooked them up with bootlegs, but suddenly after they turned on G. Litt they deny ever running DRHQ and they deny ever being friends with G. Litt, which is a bitch move in it self. Anyone who's been around long enough knows the truth, ask anyone from PhatForum's old days.

What happened to RideOnEm? He's always an active poster and why did you ban "Black Jesuz" and "OG_Doggfather?" Also, personally, I don't believe y'all are 2Real. I never claimed you were, Rukas did, I don't know if it's true or not.

As far as I'm concerned Deathrow died with Pac. We're here to keep Tupac's memory alive, not try to come up off bringing somebody else down.

Check It Again...
Posted Thursday, December 7, 2000 by Rukas
Seeing as my comment started all of this, I have to throw my two cents in.

Firstly, RideOnEm is John Hayland aka DeathRow. Hyland and Miles Iverson run the 'official' Death Row site and also run Westside2real, which I'm sure the DR offices don't know about. They are also two well known 'ex' bootleggers. So its pretty obvious that DeathRow, RideOnEm, Da_Juice and 2real are the same people, did you ever wonder why the Death Row forum doesn't show the posters IP? John 'Nate' Hyland and Miles Iverson pulled this same trick on Phatforum, but after G. Litt, J.D. Bastin and the regulars found out, they got laughed off the board. Oh, and isn't it funny that 'RideOnEm' posts a question and then just three minutes later 'DeathRow' replies...

Now, they say they don't pay attention to this site? Well they obviously do since they got so pissed at a comment (two words) I made. Plus, as Chris mentioned, they used to always e-mail him and 'hired' Jon to make their graphics and original frame layout. I say 'hired' because they didn't even have the decency in them to pay him for his hard work. In fact these 'webmasters' hardly do any of their own work, they hound other people to do it for them, then take the credit. I know they asked Jon to do it, G. Litt, Tewpac and JG also got asked. Hyland and Iverson have hardly any web design skill, they had to get people to teach them how to use FTP and Eudora! I'll say it again, Very Unprofessional.

Hide behind whatever alias you two want, sooner or later the truth will come out just like it did at Phatforum, my bet is on sooner...

Check it...

Deathrowrecords2000.com/ubbhttp://forum.hitemup.com1/HTML/004530.html

I find this really funny since RideOnEm is John "Nate" Hyland, one of the ex-bootleging unpaid webmasters at the official Death Row Records website, you know, that dude that got in contact with Death Row through that shitty job he had at a radiostation in Tennesse and later bought DeathRowRecords.com together with Gurjet Litt (no offense) and Miles Iverson and tried to get Death Row to pay big money for it and when they refused he and Iverson turned on Litt and later got Death Row to "hire" (well, do it for free) them as webmasters after a year of nagging at Cedric. I wonder if he knows that y'all are leaking out audio to Westside2Real.com that you're not allowed to post at the official site. I'm not talking about their so-called exclusives like Personal Business, Tha Last Meal and The Restless LP which they jacked from MP3 sites, I'm talking about the tracks from Too Gangsta For Radio that y'all posted early.

Anyway, you might wonder why Hyland would post under the name RideOnEm. It's because he wanted to let everybody know what they think about us. But it's not like they was gonna start a thread about us under the username "DeathRow," because that way they'd seem very unprofessional, but hey, it wasn't so professional to leave an official website not password protected, right? Y'all should search for posts by "RideOnEm" at the Death Row board if y'all don't believe me. Isn't it a bit weird he's always the first one to notice when a section at DeathRowRecords2000.com or something at Westside2Real.com is updated and always the one to diss us, AllEyezOnMe.com and any other site that better than them and helped their ass out in the beginning.

Also, if you're as hard as you claim (didn't y'all call yourself "web donz" a while back?) and actually get paid, you should be quite rich now. A professional webmaster get paid around $90/an hour, and you two geeks are online 24/7, so yeah, you should have lots of money by now. So why don't y'all come and see me?

Jarone, you're saying we're jealous of Hyland and Iverson? Jealous about what? Their unpaid job? Their shitty webmaster skills? Nah, I don't think so. And your story about what happened in the WestsideTV.com chat room is pure bullshit! I don't care, though. I just think it's funny that you left the Outlawz chat because of us, hehe, what a sucker. The reason we was pissed at you in the first place was because you had said some shit about us being Tupac dickriders because we have a biters section on our site. You shouldn't even open your moth about that since you're getting pimped by Hyland and Iverson all day, every day. Also, haha, it's funny, according to you, me and Rukas was from Canada, then from Sweden and now we're from Switzerland and Australia? That just shows how dumb you are.

Da_Juice, please do me a favor and shut the fuck up. You're full of shit, just like the rest. I once said that I relate to the streets? Then why don't you tell me when? C'mon, you gotta know pretty much about me since not even I know about this. And fuck whoever else (besides WARRIORAIDER) that replied to that message, don't reply to shit you don't know shit about your fucking followers.

Also, Miles, I know you're "DeathRow" because you're running that site, John's just your fucking puppet. Anyway, you said you don't pay attention to this site. How come you always used to e-mail me and ask for credit for news from your site (that's right, I usually give credit to unofficial sites, not official ones, isn't it enough that I'm promoting their artists and albums?)? And if you never paid attention then why did you ask Jon to do your old framelayout? Which he never got his $100 for by the way. Didn't Jon also do your old board? Maybe I'm wrong, maybe it was the AllEyezOnMe.com webmaster, I don't know, there's so many people y'all have used for your site since you can't do shit yourself.

Tupac and Morissette collobration
Posted Thursday, December 7, 2000 by Chris
In the latest issue of Hip Hop Connection there's an interview with Afeni. It confirms that Tupac recorded songs with Alanis Morissette. I know he said he did in an interview before his death, but I remember that there was some people on our board (which we hope to have back up again soon) that doubted he ever did. Here's the part of the interview in which the songs are being mentioned.

Hip Hop Connection: You recently discovered over 150 tracks recorded by Tupac at various stages in his career, some of them including collaborations with Alanis Morissette and Madonna. Do you have any plans to relase them?

Afeni: They'll all be available at some point in the near future. The Alanis and Madonna tracks will probably be released as a collobrative album. Tupac has left other tracks that include contributions from old school rappers like Melle Mel. We have enough material for around another ten albums, but the method by which we let this all out to the public is still at a planning stage. There may be a box set of Tupac's music at some stage in the near future.

Soon after Tupac died in 1996, conspiracies were quickly fabricated alleging he had faked his own death...

That hurt me very much. Here I was trying to deal with the loss of my own son, and people started making this stuff up. People can talk and comment all they want, it still can't bring my son back. He's gone forever. The rumours originally appeared on the internet, which is supposed to bring accurate information to people starved of it. It was an unfortunate thing for people to suggest, just to make some headlines off of it.

Battlecat, Doggystyle and TVT sued
Posted Tuesday, December 5, 2000 by Chris
Last Wednesday, Columbia filled a lawsuit toward Battlecat, Doggystyle Records and TVT Records. Columbia is claiming that the cover of the "Baby If You're Ready" single by Doggy's Angels features the familiar Charlie's Angels logo and that the cover art could cause confusion for shopper who are looking for Charlie's Angels soundtrack. Columbia also claims that the single's explicit content and the video's violent content are likely to tarnish and disparage the reputation and good will associa
