Tha Alkaholiks change name |
| Posted Saturday, January 27, 2001 by Chris |
Tha Alkaholiks has changed their name to Tha Liks. "When we were on tour with Q-Tip and De La Soul, some states wouldn't even let us perform because of the name," J-Ro said. "It got us to where we are today, but we're ready to go forward. Most of our fans have been calling us Tha Liks for a while anyway."
Their fourth album, X.O., is set to be released by Loud Records in May. The album features guest appearances by Busta Rhymes, DJ Twinz, King Tee, Kurupt, Rockwilder, Shae Fiol, The Neptunes and Xzibit and production by DJ Scratch, Dr. Dre, Rockwilder, Thayod and The Neptunes. The first single is "Run Wild" which features Shae Fiol and is produced by Rockwilder. They've also recorded two songs with Xzibit, "151" which is named after the studio in Las Vegas where it was recorded and "X.O." which is produced by Dr. Dre and one song with Busta Rhymes, "Bullyfoot" which is produced by DJ Scratch. "We just mixed that last night," J-Ro said. "It turned out real good. It's a got a nice beat to it." "It's the top shelf of Liks' albums," J-Ro said. "We didn't change our formula necessarily, but it's a new flavor. It's the best we got. We didn't hold back nothing. We're gonna reach a bigger audience with this one." |

Slug mentions Tupac |
| Posted Thursday, January 25, 2001 by Chris |
Here's a part of an interview with Slug in which he mentions Tupac:
"I am in this for the big record deal," Slug declares one day, swilling a bottomless mug of coffe at Pandora's Cup on Hennepin Avenue. "Everybody is, in a sense. I've never been crying about trying to get one, but deep down, we all want to be Tupac. Not just to get rich. I want kids to hear me. I have to admire the way he was able to touch people so hard. That's not Ricky Martin "Livin' La Vida Loca" shit. [Tupac's] touching the ghetto, the people that are hurting the most."

Interview with the Outlawz |
| Posted Tuesday, January 23, 2001 by Chris |
Here's an interview with the Outlawz by Murder Dog. Thanks a lot to ODG for transcribing. Much appreciated:
Murder Dog: How Long Have you been working on this new album?
Outlawz: Ride Wit Us Or Collide Wit Us. We been workin' on it about three months. 20 songs on there. Bangin'. It's gonna be a classic. Best album to come out this year. And were not just sayin' that 'cause it's our album. When you hear it you'll know what we mean. It's original. We got bangin' beats, we got the bomb rhymes. We hot. That's point blank.
I heard that you started your own label?
Our label's called Outlaw Recordz. We also got Outlaw clothing coming and Outlaw Films comin'. We the CEOs. Us four.
This is the first time you'll be coming without Pac. How does it feel?
Absolutely. I'm really excited about it. We've grown a lot. We had to step it up, and I don't think we'll disappoint 'em at all. I think we might be better than people even think we are. We recorded like five albums that y'all didn't even hear. Over the years buildin' up.
What happened to all those recordings?
We have about four albums right now about to come out. We got a whole 'nother album done right now. We got the Jersey M.O.B. compilation, Napoleon Presents The Bonapartes and The Blood Brothers.
When did you record those albums?
We keep workin'. We stay in the studio. That's what we love to do. We got something to prove. Outlaw Recordz, tryin' to shut the game down.
Do you stay in L.A. now or are you still based in the East Coast?
We're based in L.A. We recorded all our shit in L.A.
How did the Outlawz come together and how did you meet Pac?
We all linked to eachother from childhood. It is something that had to happen. We all were linked in someway or another from childhood. E.D.I and Kastro grew up together. Pac is Kastro's cousin. And I grew up with Kadafi (rest in peace). Kadafi is Pac's brother. He's the one that brought me Napolean and Fatal to the group. Fatal's locked down right now too, he's doin a solo thing too. That's how it happened basically. It was a family thing.
What was the age differences between you?
Pac was three years older than E.D.I. and six years older than me. Pac created the Outlawz. He was the first outlaw, he was the general.
You were in Pac's shadow for a long time. How do you think the world is going to take you know?
We like to let our music speak for itself. We have a lotta fans. From bein' on all that Pac stuff we got our fanbase now. They lovin' us for all our past work, but we never put an album out. We way better than we used to be. So when they here it they gonna love it. Go get the album and you will see. Ain't nobody fuckin with us. We got a lotta fans. We're just tryin' to be independent and blow up Outlaw Recordz up. We're tryin to go platinum independent.
How did you end up working with Bayside for Distribution?
Spice 1 hooked that up, as a matter of fact. Spice 1 doin' something with Bayside. Then he gave 'em a lettin' 'em know we was tryin' to do independent, and they jumped on it. They're excited just like us. They didn't even have to hear the music. They signed us cause they have the faith in us, they seen where our heart is at.
When you first met 2PAC did you ever think he would be this big?
Two members of the group knew him all their life, so they always knew 2PAC was gonna be big. 2PAC was a born star. You just know when somebody got it.
You think that people are born stars?
For sure. Some people got it, some people don't. I don't believe that people are born with it, I think people learn. Some people can learn it. But if you knew a person like Pac all your life you would say that he was a born star. All people - not just us - all people knew that about him. You knew he was gonna do something special. The ones who didn't know, they know now.
Do you think The Outlawz are stars?
Absolutely. Pac wouldn't have fucked with us if he didn't see that light in us also. Do you think we're stars?
I like what you're doing, but you were always working with 2PAC.
You mean we got to prove ourseleves now? People are wondering if the Outlawz can stand on their own. That's what we want them to say. Pac ain't been here for like three years now. We're still here, we still bringin the raw. Muthafuckas is gonna see. We wanna prove ourselves.

Tha Realest feat. 2Pac |
| Posted Monday, January 22, 2001 by Rukas |
There has been a track floating around called We Have Sinned by Tha Realest featuring The Last Circle and 2Pac. The track only features a short sample of 2Pac saying "Let us pray my niggaz, for we definitely have sinned" taken from Hail Mary. Apart from that the track does not contain 2Pac. As for Tha Realest, he has a different style on this track and does not sound that much like Pac, lets hope this is a sign that his biting days are over.

B.G. mentions Tupac |
| Posted Monday, January 22, 2001 by Chris |
Here's a part of an interview with B.G. by Murder Dog in which he mentions Tupac:
Murder Dog: What music have you been listenin to outside of Cash Money shit?
B.G.: I listen to a lotta shit. I was straight up Pac, man. I'm diggin' Jigga. They got a lotta wack shit out there and they got some nice shit. Ain't nothing to brag on, 'cause there ain't too much noise bein' made in the game. Beanie Sigel, he been spittin'. That nigga ain't bullshittin'. I been banging that nigga's shit. I love that nigga, I ain't no hater at all.
If you had a choice to do a song with any artist outside your clique, who would it be? I know it would be Pac if he was alive...
Most definitely Pac. I shoulda done something with Biggie, he's dead already too. Who else? Beanie Sigel. There's a lotta artists I'd like to work with. If it happens, it happens. If it don't, it don't. If it don't make dollars, it don't make sense.

Xzibit mentions Tupac |
| Posted Monday, January 22, 2001 by Chris |
Here's a part of an interview with Xzibit by Murder Dog in which he mentions Tupac:
Murder Dog: What would you consider to be your main influences?
Xzibit: I'd say the early Public Enemy shit. That influenced me a lot. I love the Fear Of A Black Planet album. I love Pete Rock's Mecca and The Soul Brother album. I love when Dre and Snoop and everybody was together over at Death Row. A lotta that shit was influential. Biggie, when he was alive, a lotta his shit was on point and bangin'. You don't gotta say shit about Pac, Pac was killin' shit. He was the best. They gotta have that something for me to get into it, they gotta have that spark. Wu-Tang is dangerous as a muthafucka. Wu-Tang Clan ain't nothing to fuck with.

Hookt.com: I'm glad you brought up the 'hood. Coming from such a hardcore group like Onyx, did you have trepidation about loosing fans by signing to do a family show like Moesha.
Fredro Starr: What could any dude on the streets tell me I'm doing wrong picking up 50 Gs an episode? (Eff) what they talking about. I'm doing Firestarr, feeding my sons. The only person I gotta worry about is God. I'm dying for this music. How many dudes been with Biggie in L.A. and ran with Pac? I been through all that. I didn't even think I'd make it to see 25, so this shit don't mean nothing to me. I had it, lost it all and got it back again.

Until The End Of Time |
| Posted Tuesday, January 16, 2001 by Rukas |
Makaveli4ever is reporting that the new 2Pac album from Death Row Records/Amaru Records will be called Until The End Of Time and will be released around March 6th. The first single will be Until The End Of Time, there is no tracklist but another track is called Ballad Of A Fallen Souljah. Makaveli4ever then says that the album will feature some Death Row artists, but I don't know if this means new or old inmates.
I'm thinking that Until The End Of Time is the renamed version of The Safe, but this was not stated. No mention on whether it will be a 4CD box set or two separately released double CD albums was made either. |

Black Eyed Peas mention Tupac |
| Posted Saturday, January 13, 2001 by Rukas |
The Black Eyed Peas were recently interviewed and 2Pac was mentioned.
Question: East LA is a notoriously tough area.
The neighborhood was pretty bad and I have probably seen the same things Tupac has as far as friends dying and shooting, and people doing and selling drugs. I could tell the same stories but my family raised me a different way. And peer pressure affects only those who don't believe in themselves.
Pac was not mentioned in the rest of the interview. |

Sports Writers Direct article mentions Tupac as a soon-to-be-murdered gangsta rapper |
| Posted Friday, January 12, 2001 by Jon |
Sportswritersdirect.com published an article yesterday titled Body Language written by Rick Telander. The article is about pro-sport atheletes and tattoos. In the article Mr. Telander makes reference to Tupac.
"It's one thing for a soon-to-be-murdered gangsta rapper like Tupac Shakur to have "THUG LIFE" tattooed across his abdomen."
Soon to be murdered ? While I see the validity in the writers arguement, I personally find that very disrespectful, I mean he was murdered going on 5 years ago. It does however show how the media makes reference to Tupac and his gangster image when in reality they know nothing about him or his life. If you'd like to contactthe editors, as I did, you can contact them at swdmail@broadbandsports.com

He was shot in the lower torso and is expected to make a speedy recovery.. |

Michael Jackson's offer to Dr. Dre |

"Somebody approached me about working with Michael Jackson, and I did say no because I like working with new artists or people that I've worked with in the past," Dre said. "I can develop them from the ground up. There's no set standard that I have to live up to or anything like that. All I have to do is go in the studio, and basically they're going to bust their ass to come in there and do their thing the way it's supposed to be done." |

| Posted Friday, January 12, 2001 by Chris |
Here's an interview with the Shakur estate by Makaveli4ever.com:
Makaveli4ever.com: You recently told me that The Safe is scheduled for a March 1 release, is that still correct?
Shakur estate: The LP is not called The Safe...
Can you please tell me the name of the LP to be released on March 1?
We still do not know which songs are going to be on the LP... Once his mom and Suge decide, we will name the LP.
So, this LP that you are talking of, is it the same one that Death Row was at first refering to as The Safe?
Yes.
Okay. Also, I thought music is only released on Tuesdays, yet March 1 lands on a Thursday.
It is scheduled for release around that time... And it will come out on a Tuesday.
Sorry to bother you, but everyone is dying to know, has work been started on already picked tracks? Like new beats and such?
Yes. New beats... New music... Old and new producers.
Okay, this is my last question, but can you as of now list me any songs that will be on the LP, and around how many songs it will contain?
No... Sorry. It will be a double LP.
LOL... Can't even name one song?
LOL... No... I am sorry.
Okay, well, I want to thank you for your time and tell Afeni that a good name for that LP would be The Rebirth LOL.

Richie Rich doing it Doggystyle ? |
| Posted Tuesday, January 9, 2001 by Jon |
| According to DaveyD.com Snoop was on Bay Area Radio and talked about the possibility of signing Richie Rich to Doggstyle Records. I personally loved Richie Rich's album Seasoned Veteran, and I think every song he and Tupac collaborated on was hot. I'd definately like to hear a song with Richie Rich and Snoop. |

Words from HitEmUp.com |
| Posted Tuesday, January 9, 2001 by Jon |
| I just got back from a short vacation and I'm back taking care of things at HitEmUp.com. The site is now running three different servers, including one dedicated, one virtual and an audio server. In order to cover the costs we are going to be adding some more advertising. I will do my best to make sure that the advertising is relevant and are products that you are interested in. Through MusicFans we have formed an affiliation with Switchouse which will allow us and all of you to trade and buy cd's amongst each other. We have many sections about to added and ThaOutlawz.com is about to undergo major reconstruction. In 2001 HitEmUp is taking fan sites to the highest possible level. |

Tupac blamed by the media ... again |
| Posted Monday, January 1, 2001 by Rukas |
Fox News was talking about violence in Television, Movies and Music and when talking about violent lyrics in rap music they showed footage of Tupac. Just another example of how the media blamed and still tries to blame Pac for everything. I found it funny that the segment was called Against All Odds (which is a Makaveli song).
"Don't get caught up in tha mix, cause the media is full of dirty tricks... Only God can Judge me" |
